Hatchlings
Cultural Celebrations
Eid al-Fitr
We introduced the babies to Eid, a joyful festival marking the end of Ramadan. To celebrate, the Hatchlings explored a sensory sand tray filled with sparkling stars, representing the crescent moon and stars often seen in Islamic art. The children practiced their fine motor skills by scooping, sifting, and finding the hidden stars.
World Autism Awareness Day
To honor this important day, we provided a rich sensory tray experience. Babies explored materials such as foam, soft sand, oats, and colorful playdough, engaging their senses through textures and movement. These activities support sensory development, encouraging calmness, curiosity, and self-regulation through hands-on discovery.
Amazing Excursion to Barbican Center
This week, our Hatchlings enjoyed a lovely trip to the Barbican Centre! While exploring the exhibitions, we discovered a giant Easter egg, sparking excitement and wonder. On our outdoor walk, we encountered real ducks — a wonderful moment for our babies to connect their learning with the world around them, proudly identifying the animals and saying “quack quack”.

Regional Activities: Exploring Ancient Greece
As we kick off our new theme, we stepped into the world of Ancient Greece! The children explored traditional Greek attire and discovered the beautiful gold leaf headpieces worn in ancient times. Inspired by this, we crafted our own golden crowns, carefully shaping and decorating them to resemble the stunning headwear of Ancient Greek and Roman traditions. This activity supported fine motor skills, creativity, and cultural awareness.
Festivals: Celebrating World Autism Awareness Day
April 2nd marked World Autism Awareness Day, and we celebrated by embracing individuality and kindness. The children created self-portraits, highlighting their unique features and celebrating their differences. Through discussions, we reinforced the importance of being kind, inclusive, and accepting of others, fostering empathy and social-emotional development.
Music with Miss Molly
Wednesday’s session with Miss Molly was full of excitement! The children met Miss Hen and her chicks, counting how many they could see— a fun way to build early math skills. As Easter approaches, Peter Rabbit made a special appearance, and we sang along to some fun songs together, enhancing language development and rhythm awareness.
Watching your child grow and learn at Hatching Dragons is something we cherish. We’d love to hear about your family’s experience. Please consider sharing your thoughts in a City Google Review and help us continue to create a nurturing environment for other children."
Dragon Flight - preschool nursery
Regional Focus: Discovering Ancient Greece
As part of our Southern Europe theme, the children explored the fascinating world of Ancient Greece. We introduced the Ancient Greek alphabet, where preschoolers practiced tracing letters and learned their pronunciations, supporting early literacy and fine motor development.
We also explored Greek architecture, focusing on the Parthenon. After examining its unique design, the children created their own versions using a variety of 2D shapes, reinforcing concepts of geometry, spatial awareness, and creative thinking.
To extend their learning, the children engaged with number blocks and used stamps to explore number recognition and sequencing—laying a strong foundation for early numeracy.
Amazing Excursion: Barbican Library Visit
Our preschoolers had a wonderful time during their visit to the Barbican Library! They took part in an engaging music and story session, where they sang some of their favorite nursery rhymes and joined in an interactive storytelling experience.
These types of outings enrich language development, support active listening skills, and foster a love of books and storytelling.
STEM Spotlight: Learning Through Landmarks
During our STEM session, we turned our attention to one of London’s most iconic structures — the London Eye. The children explored real-life applications of mathematics by learning how many people can fit into a capsule and calculating total capacity through group counting.
This practical math activity not only strengthened numeracy skills but also encouraged logical thinking and problem-solving.
This week, Dragon Flight had an exciting and energetic session with Lucy Sparkles, and it was truly magical from start to finish! The children were fully engaged as they sang along to familiar songs and explored new ones through rhythm, movement, and imaginative play.
