A new, clearer way of keeping in touch with youOver the past few weeks, many of you have shared helpful feedback about how often and in what ways we communicate with you. Thank you – we’ve listened, and from the beginning of December we’re making a few changes so that information is clearer, more consistent and easier to find.Here’s what our new communication rhythm will look like:Daily Diaries • No change • You’ll continue to receive your child’s Daily Diary via eyParent as you do now.Weekly Observations – from Friday 5th December • Every Friday, you’ll receive a weekly roundup via eyParent with: • Highlights from your child’s week (including photos/videos where appropriate) • Key learning and activities • A look ahead to the coming weekMonthly Nursery Newsletter – from 23rd December • Our nursery newsletter will move from a weekly email to a monthly update via eyParent (using the new NewsFeed feature). • This will start with the newsletter on 23rd December, and then continue monthly. • In this newsletter you’ll find: • A reflection on the month just gone and a preview of what’s coming up • Important dates and reminders • News from across the nursery • Updates on events, projects and any changes you need to know about • Any other news from across the Hatching Dragons family • Today will be the final weekly newsletter. • From the next edition on 28th November, newsletters will no longer be sent weekly by email. Instead, the next full newsletter will be shared on 23rd December via eyParent, marking the start of our new monthly rhythm.

Welcome to Our New Finance Manager! We’re delighted to welcome Anna Zamuraeva as our new Finance Manager, joining us as part of a refresh of our Finance Department. Anna is here to raise the standard of our finance operations and make things clearer, smoother, and more parent-friendly for our families.
Her focus is on clear communication, faster support, greater transparency, and always having a listening ear when it comes to fees, funding, or accounts. Anna says: “I’m excited to join the Hatching Dragons family and am committed to ensuring our financial processes reflect values that are fundamental to our way of working: premium care, strong communication and high quality services.”
We’re excited to have Anna on board and look forward to the positive changes she’ll bring to support our parents, teams, and nurseries.
Hatchlings Newsletter
Modern Languages
This week, our little Hatchlings had a wonderful time exploring Gingerbread Man–themed sensory play! We set up a festive Christmas sensory tray filled with glitter sand, gingerbread-man play dough, and lots of exciting tools for scooping, pressing, poking and shaping. The children loved decorating their gingerbread play-dough people, feeling the different textures, and discovering how the dough changed when they pressed or rolled it. Through this playful exploration, they strengthened their fine motor skills, hand–eye coordination, and creativity.We also introduced the Mandarin word for gingerbread man: 姜饼人 (jiāng bǐng rén).

Regional Learning – South America
As part of our regional learning focus on South America, the children created vibrant Argentinian-style headpieces. Using bold dot markers and colourful feathers, they designed their own festive accessories inspired by traditional South American celebrations. The Hatchlings showed great enthusiasm choosing their colours and patterns, supporting both creative expression and fine motor development.
Christmas Activities
Our Christmas-themed activities continued throughout the week with a range of sensory and creative experiences:Hot Christmas Teas Sensory PlayThe Hatchlings explored our imaginative Hot Christmas Teas station, where sand became the “tea,” soft foam became frothy “bubbles,” and red and green pom-poms acted as Christmas marshmallows.Using scoops, cups and spoons, the children enjoyed pouring, mixing and decorating their pretend festive drinks. This encouraged imaginative play and strengthened fine motor skills.We also introduced new Mandarin vocabulary:
- 热茶 (rè chá) – hot tea
- 红色 (hóngsè) – red
- 绿色 (lǜsè) – green
Christmas Tree DecoratingThe Hatchlings used dot markers to decorate a Christmas tree, practising colour recognition as they added bright baubles and learned about placing a special star on top.Meet Santa! We introduced Santa this week, exploring his bright red hat, fluffy white beard and cheerful appearance. The children then created their own Santa faces using foam pieces and pom-poms, an activity that supported creativity, observation, and fine-motor skills.
Music & Mindfulness with Miss Molly
Music Time with Miss Molly was full of rhythm and giggles this week! Continuing our autumn and Halloween theme, the children wore witch hats and sang along to festive songs. Through movement activities, they identified body parts, stretched high, reached low, and moved in time with the music. The session ended with a joyful parachute play, where the children worked together, watching the colourful fabric float above them — a wonderful moment of teamwork and fun.

Monday Activity Update
This week, the Blue Dragon children had a wonderful time practising their fine motor skills. On Monday, we set up a fun and slightly tricky challenge: each child used a pair of child-safe tweezers to pick up water-soaked cotton pads and then toss them onto a large sheet of paper taped to the floor .
This activity encouraged careful hand–eye coordination , strengthened their finger muscles, and gave them a chance to experiment with a new tool. The children showed great concentration and lots of enthusiasm—there were plenty of smiles as they mastered the technique!
We’re so proud of their effort and growing confidence.
Colour recognition game
This week, Blue Dragon focused on colour recognition through a fun and engaging activity. The children explored six sheets of different coloured paper laid out on the table. Their challenge was to match the farm animals to the sheet with the corresponding colour.The activity encouraged careful observation , early sorting skills , and lots of excited conversations about colours and animals. The children did a fantastic job recognising and matching each colour with confidence!
Mandarin
This week, our Blue Dragons had a bright and exciting Mandarin session as we explored the theme of the sun! The children learned the Mandarin word for sun — “太阳” (tài yáng) — and practiced the pronunciation through songs, actions, and repetition. They were enthusiastic and confident, and many began using the new word during play and group time!To bring the theme to life, we moved into a hands-on creative activity. Using yellow and orange paint, along with strips of vibrant yellow paper, the children designed and built their very own shining suns. They enjoyed:
-Painting circular sun shapes
-Adding paper rays to make their suns “shine”
-Talking about the colours they used
-Repeating “太阳” as they created their artwork
The activity encouraged fine motor skills, creativity, language development, and lots of joyful expression. The room was full of bright colours and even brighter smiles!
We are so proud of our Blue Dragons for their curiosity and enthusiasm in learning Mandarin this week.
Specialist Teachers Spotlight
Miss Molly’s Music & Movement
The children had a lovely time during Miss Molly’s session on Wednesday! We began with the cheerful Hello Song , helping everyone settle in and feel ready to join the fun.Next, we moved on to singing the Snail Song , using a soft teddy snail that the children absolutely adored. They enjoyed watching it slowly glide around as they sang along.
After that, we jumped into an energetic favourite — Zoom, Zoom, Zoom!
The children were full of excitement as they counted down together and blasted off into space.
We ended the session with a peaceful calm time . The children lay down on the floor and watched the gentle star lights twinkle above them, creating a soothing and relaxing atmosphere to finish the session.It was a beautiful mix of music, movement, and mindfulness!
Sporty Minis in Action!
The Blue Dragons had an amazing time during our Sporty Minis session on Tuesday! We began with a full-body warm-up, including big stretches to wake up our muscles and gentle movements on the spot to get our hearts pumping . The children listened beautifully as we talked about why warming up is important for keeping our bodies strong and safe.
Next, we moved on to practicing our hopping and jumping skills. The children took turns moving along a line, focusing on balance, coordination, and staying in control. We saw some fantastic efforts — high jumps, steady hops, and lots of proud smiles! To finish off, we played an exciting colour-matching game . The children raced around the space to find and collect cones of the same colour, working together, communicating, and cheering each other on. It was a wonderful way to end the session with teamwork, energy, and giggles all around

Our preschoolers in Dragon Flight have had an incredibly vibrant, creative, and active few weeks. From numeracy and artistic projects to cultural exploration and physical development, the children have been fully immersed in meaningful learning experiences that encourage confidence, curiosity, and independence.

Building Maths Confidence Through Number Tracing
The children enjoyed a focused number-tracing activity where they practiced forming numerals correctly. After tracing, they counted sets of objects that matched each number, helping them strengthen their one-to-one correspondence and number recognition skills. It was wonderful to see how their confidence grew as they became more secure in linking written numerals to quantities.
Colourful Parrot Creations – Inspired by South & Central America
As part of our South and Central America theme this month, the children created their own colourful parrots. They used paper plates as templates and cotton buds as painting tools, carefully adding bright colours and details to their artwork. This experience not only encouraged their creativity but also helped them develop fine motor control while engaging with our cultural curriculum. Each parrot reflected the children’s individuality and artistic choices, and they were very proud of their creations.
Sporty Minis – Learning to Skip
Our Sporty Minis session was full of energy as the children practiced skipping. They worked hard to coordinate their steps, alternate their feet, and use their arms to maintain balance. Many children showed noticeable improvement as they gained confidence and encouraged one another throughout the activities. The session supported their gross motor development, rhythm, balance, and teamwork, while also giving them a great sense of achievement as they mastered new physical skills.
Creative Llama Making – Encouraging Independent Thinking
The children revisited a llama-making activity they had done previously, but this time the focus was on encouraging independent decision-making and creative expression. They selected their own materials, experimented with colours, and discussed their ideas with their peers. Many children demonstrated growing confidence as they made choices about their designs, while others explored new and inventive ways to assemble their llamas. The activity allowed them to develop problem-solving skills, practise rich language, and collaborate with one another in a caring and respectful way.
Miss Molly Session – Storytelling and Yoga Fun
During Miss Molly’s session, the children listened to Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? They excitedly identified the animals and colours as they appeared in the story. After reading, they moved into animal-themed yoga poses based on the characters, stretching, balancing, and moving their bodies like the bear, the bird, the horse, the frog, and many others. The children stayed highly engaged, followed instructions beautifully, and demonstrated strong recall of the sequence of animals while also developing their gross motor skills and body awareness.
