Modern Languages

This week, our babies continued their journey across South America by diving into the magical world of the Amazon Rainforest. The children loved searching for hidden animals beneath leaves, sand, and coloured paper in our sensory rainforest tray.
As part of our Modern Languages focus, they learned new Mandarin words — Monkey 猴子 (hóu zi), Butterfly 蝴蝶 (hú dié), and Crocodile 鳄鱼 (è yú) — building early communication, listening, and cultural awareness. Later, they listened to the story The Forest and learned even more animal names like Lion 狮子 (shīzi), Zebra 斑马 (bānmǎ), and Rhino 犀牛 (xīniú), joining in with sounds and movements for each animal.

Regional Education

Our South American adventure continued with a colourful celebration of Brazil’s famous Rio Carnival! The Hatchlings created dazzling carnival masks using feathers and dot markers, expressing their creativity and imagination.
Next, we travelled to Peru to explore the Rainbow Mountains. The babies used different coloured sand to create their own mountain patterns, exploring textures and colours. Adding toy animals like monkeys and snakes made the experience even more engaging, encouraging imaginative and sensory play.

Outdoor Adventure

The Hatchlings loved spending time in the garden this week, exploring the sights and sounds of autumn. They discovered crunchy brown and orange leaves, tossing them in the air and watching them float down with laughter and delight.
We even held our afternoon circle time outdoors, surrounded by nature as the children sang nursery rhymes — a lovely way to blend music, movement, and sensory discovery in the fresh autumn air.

Bonfire Night Celebrations

To celebrate Bonfire Night, our little artists explored a range of colourful, sensory firework activities. The babies used brushes and tools to spread coloured powders across a tuff tray, creating patterns inspired by fireworks in the night sky.
Later, they used bright chalk on black paper to make their own firework displays, experimenting with lines, shapes, and colours. The sounds of real fireworks playing in the background helped bring the magic to life, sparking imagination and creativity.

Specialist Teacher

To end the week, Miss Molly led a beautiful sensory music and mindfulness session inspired by Bonfire Night. The babies waved colourful scarves to music, mimicking fireworks bursting in the sky, and explored light-up toys that glowed and sparkled in rhythm with the songs.
It was a calm and joyful session that encouraged movement, mindfulness, and sensory awareness — a perfect end to an exciting week of exploration and celebration!

Thank you to all our wonderful families for your continued support — we can’t wait for more adventures next week!

Outdoor Adventure

This Wednesday, the Blue Dragons enjoyed a fantastic outing to the Green Area! The children loved exploring the autumn leaves — tossing them in the air, feeling their textures, and noticing their vibrant colours. They also had fun with bats and balls, practising their hand-eye coordination and balance through playful games.
It was a wonderful morning full of laughter, movement, and discovery — the perfect way to embrace the autumn season outdoors!

Modern Languages

During Mandarin class, the children learned about our planet, discovering that the Mandarin word for Earth is 地球 (dì qiú). They practised saying the word and created their very own Earth collages using blue and green paper.
As they worked, they talked about land and sea, developing fine motor skills and understanding how our planet is made up of both. It was a creative and educational way to combine art and language learning!

Regional Education

As part of our Regional Theme, the Blue Dragons travelled (in imagination!) to the Amazon Rainforest. Using a tuff tray filled with sand, blue gel, and grass, they recreated the rainforest environment — complete with rivers, trees, and animals!
The children explored textures, mixed materials, and built sensory connections to nature while learning about one of the world’s most diverse regions. Through this activity, they developed creativity, fine motor control, and cultural awareness.

Specialist Teachers

In Sporty Minis, the children worked on balance and coordination through fun and active games! They practised walking along ropes, balancing cones on their heads, and playing “Don’t Wake the Snake!” — a team game that encouraged focus and careful movement.
It was fantastic to see their teamwork, determination, and big smiles throughout the session!

Miss Molly’s session was full of joy and rhythm this week! The children sang cheerful songs like Five Little Speckled Frogs and enjoyed dancing and popping bubbles. These activities encouraged listening, coordination, and self-expression through music and movement.
We ended the session with a calm reflection under soft star lights — a lovely, peaceful way to close a day of energy and fun!

We can’t wait to share more adventures with you next week!

Dragon Flights Newsletter

Theme of the Week: Regional Education & Bonfire Night

This week, our Dragon Flights explored the vibrant culture of South America, focusing on the Andes Mountains and the native llama! The children enjoyed a mix of literacy, STEM, and creative learning inspired by the story Llama Llama Red Pajama, while also celebrating Bonfire Night with a colourful science experiment. Our specialist sessions added even more fun with movement, mindfulness, and music!

Excursion – Barbican Fountains

We enjoyed a calm and refreshing trip to the Barbican fountains. The children loved watching the water features and spotting fish in the pond. We shared snacks by the water and took time to relax, reflect, and enjoy the peaceful setting together.

STEM

Our STEM focus was all about colour exploration! The children mixed coloured water in the sand, predicting and observing how colours blended. They also practised identifying the first letter of each colour — supporting both language and early literacy skills.
To celebrate Bonfire Night, we created “Magic Milk Fireworks”! With food colouring and dish soap, the children watched as vibrant bursts of colour swirled through the milk — sparking joy and curiosity. Their reactions were priceless: “It’s exploding!” and “It’s like the sky!”

Regional Education

Our story of the week, Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney, sparked thoughtful conversations about family, emotions, and bedtime routines. The children showed empathy and understanding — one even said, “Scary,” when Baby Llama was alone in the dark!
We then learned that llamas come from the Andes Mountains in South America. Inspired by this discovery, the children created their own “Llama in Red Pajamas” using red felt, card, and pipe cleaners. This hands-on art project encouraged creativity, fine motor development, and teamwork.

Modern Languages

In Mandarin, we introduced this month’s new word: dì qiú (地球) — meaning Earth. The children explored what makes our planet unique, discussing oceans and land represented by blue and green. They then painted their own interpretations of Earth, reinforcing their new vocabulary through art and conversation.

Specialist Teacher Sessions

In our sporty Minus session, the children worked on balancing and coordination — walking forwards, backwards, and sideways with focus and determination. During Miss Molly’s yoga, they explored mindfulness, stretching, and breathing exercises. It was wonderful to see their growing confidence, concentration, and body awareness.
