Discovering Australia Through Play, Language, and Adventure

This week, our Hatchlings explored Australian wildlife, enjoyed Mandarin language learning, and embarked on exciting outdoor adventures, all while building creativity, curiosity, and confidence.

Come see how our Hatchlings grow through language, discovery, and creativity.

Book a visit today!

Modern Languages

This week, the Hatchlings explored the world of Mandarin, learning two new words, fish (yú) and turtle (guī). Our “mini ocean” came alive with a rolling wave made of foam and soft golden sand. Little hands explored, splashed, and dug, making language learning a truly sensory adventure.

Amazing Excursions - Barbican Highwalk

Our walk to the Barbican Highwalk turned into a magical summer surprise when gentle sprinkles of rain fell from the sky. We found a cosy spot to watch raindrops ripple across the pond, a peaceful moment of wonder. Sunshine soon returned, and we enjoyed a cheerful picnic with the Blue Dragons, sharing sweet oranges and juicy strawberries.

Our adventurous hatchlings went to enjoy the sun in fortune park! They jumped on the trampoline and went on the roundabout!

Regional Activity

We continued our journey through Australian wildlife, focusing on two much-loved creatures, the cuddly koala and the proud kangaroo. Using colourful dot markers, the children decorated animal pictures, building fine motor skills while letting their creativity shine.

In the sandpit, curious explorers uncovered wombats, kangaroos, crocodiles, platypuses, and even slithery snakes. Every discovery brought excitement and sparked conversations about these fascinating animals.

Creative Building

With big ideas and helping hands, the Hatchlings worked together to create their very own reading nook. They gathered pillows, arranged their favourite cuddly toys, and carefully stacked books on the shelves. Now, the new corner is ready for quiet moments and story-filled adventures.

Specialist Session

Miss Molly’s teddy bear picnic brought laughter and calm to our week. We sang favourite songs like I’m a Little Teapot and played peek-a-boo with colourful scarves. It was a perfect mix of movement, music, and mindful moments.
Thank you to all our wonderful families for supporting another week of joyful learning and exploration. We can’t wait to see what adventures next week will bring!

Exploring Australia Through Nature, Language, and Play

This week, our Blue Dragons explored the wonders of Australia, from learning about its animals and national flower to enjoying outdoor adventures, music, and sensory fun. Every activity encouraged creativity, movement, and curiosity.

Amazing Excursions – Barbican Fountain

Our trip to the Barbican Fountain was filled with nature discoveries. On the way, children spotted and talked about the flowers they saw, showing their love for the outdoors. At the fountain, we learned how to say “dolphin fountain” in Mandarin, hǎi tún pēn quán (海豚喷泉), blending language learning with real-world experiences.

Regional activities

We focused on the cuddly koala this week. Using silver and black paints on paper plates, children created their own koala artworks, experimenting with colours, textures, and brush techniques.

Sensory Play

Our sensory station became a mini Australian habitat. Children played with sand, water, and animal figurines, kangaroos, koalas, elephants, and snakes. Many even pretended to feed the animals water, sparking imaginative play.

Specialist teachers

Miss Molly’s session included “The Bears’ Tea Party” and “I’m a Little Teapot,” with each child joining in the singing. Bubble play brought extra excitement before exploring instruments like bells and egg shakers, keeping rhythm with the music.

Balance was the focus this week! Children balanced bean bags on their heads, shoulders, and hands, then used tennis rackets for an extra challenge, building coordination and focus through active play.

Modern Languages

We explored Australia’s national floral emblem, the Wattle Flower. Children learned to say jīn hé huān huā (金合欢花) in Mandarin and studied its bright yellow (huáng sè) petals. They drew their own wattle flowers and made 3D tissue paper versions, combining art, culture, and language learning.

Thank you to our wonderful Blue Dragon families for another week of joyful learning. We look forward to more adventures together next week!

Discovering Australasia Through Art, Culture, and Science

This week, our Dragon Flights embarked on a colourful journey through Indigenous Australian art, Hawaiian traditions, and the science of volcanoes. From creative projects to energetic games and mindful yoga, every activity brought learning to life.

Regional Education

We explored Indigenous Australian culture through a collaborative art project inspired by traditional patterns and symbols. Each child created their own piece using pens, pencils, paint, and sticks, which we combined into one stunning group artwork, a celebration of teamwork and cultural richness.

In the afternoon, we sang the “Seven Continents Song” and began our monthly focus on Australia’s koala. A heartwarming story about koalas captured the children’s curiosity.

We also explored Hawaiian traditions, learning greetings in Hawaiian and discovering the meaning behind hula dancing. Wearing flower and leaf costumes, the children enjoyed basic hula steps, bringing the island spirit to life.

STEM

Our fizzy volcano experiment used baking soda and lemon juice to show how eruptions happen. Linking this to Hawaii’s Kīlauea volcano made science and geography both exciting and memorable.

Specialist Teachers

In Sporty Minds, children played tennis and darts, building listening skills, hand-eye coordination, and motor control through active games.

During yoga with Miss Molly, we read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and practiced animal-inspired poses. Calming stones and focused breathing encouraged mindfulness, while balance activities like the tree pose strengthened concentration.

Thank you to all our Dragon Flight families for supporting another inspiring week of exploration and creativity. We can’t wait to share more adventures with you next week!

Supporting a Cause Close to Our Hearts

Hatching Dragons is proud to support our founder Cenn John, running the Cardiff Marathon this October to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Inspired by the loss of a sibling to congenital heart disease and Down’s syndrome, this fundraiser aims to help children facing life-threatening illnesses.

We would love for our Hatching Dragons community to join us in supporting this cause. Every donation, no matter how small, can help change a child's future.
