City of London School Highlights - February 14th

Another week full of fun!

This week at the nursery has been truly inspiring! The children have immersed themselves in a range of activities, from imaginative arts and crafts to lively outdoor play. They have relished the opportunity to explore, learn, and create cherished memories with their peers. Witnessing their enthusiasm and joyful expressions has been a delight. Here are some of our most treasured moments!

Hatchlings

We began Valentine's week with an engaging water tray activity! our Hatchlings explored a variety of textures such as petals, soft pom-poms, and feathers. They practiced their fine motor skills by using pipettes to squeeze water from the pom-poms, enhancing their sensory experience.

We explored our theme of East Asia further with a sensory tray featuring a cherry blossom tree, an important symbol in Japan. Hatchlings engaged with various tools to spread, scoop, and sprinkle oats.

Blue Dragons

Regional Education
In line with our monthly theme of China and East Asia, the Blue Dragons created stunning lanterns to celebrate the Lantern Festival, showcasing their creative skills.

Outdoor Play
This week, the Blue Dragons donned their explorer hats and ventured to the Barbican water fountains, where we listened to the soothing sounds of water and connected with nature.

STEAM
The Blue Dragons became little scientists during our bubble activity, crafting a DIY bubble machine with a bottle, cloth, and washing-up liquid. We enjoyed watching the bubbles form and tried to catch them.

Specialist Teachers
The Blue Dragons had a fantastic week with our specialist teachers. On Tuesday, we engaged in a Sporty Minis session, practicing our gross motor skills by tossing bean bags into hoops. Wednesday featured a sensory session with Miss Molly, where we sang favorite songs and enjoyed a calming glow-in-the-dark experience. On Friday, we had a magical music session with Lucy Sparkles, playing instruments, singing songs, and playing hide and seek with scarves.

Festival of the Week
This week, the Blue Dragons celebrated Valentine's Day with a sensory water tray, exploring the vibrant red water and discovering hidden sparkles.

Dragon Flight

Regional Education

This week, Dragon Flights focused on East Asian culture, with a particular emphasis on China and the Korean alphabet. We explored the iconic Great Wall of China through a sensory tray, discovering that its length spans over 13,000 miles. We also created traditional Chinese fans, decorating them with vibrant feathers. Additionally, we delved into the Korean alphabet, practicing the pronunciation of simple words such as "milk" (우유) and "apple" (사과). This hands-on approach allowed our preschoolers to deepen their understanding of these rich cultural elements.

Cultural Festival

This week, we created a special Valentine's Day heart, which we carefully decorated with rose petals, heart-shaped stickers, and shimmering pink glitter. During our activity, we shared our feelings of affection and gratitude for our families, expressing the importance of love and connection in our lives.

STEAM Activity

This week, Dragon Flights conducted a fascinating science experiment called "Magic Milk." We observed how food coloring behaved in milk when soap was introduced. The soap caused the food coloring to move and mix, creating dynamic patterns that resembled planets and rainbows. Additionally, we discussed the scientific principles behind the experiment, including the interactions between the soap, milk, and food coloring, and explored how surface tension and molecular movement contributed to the striking visual effects.

Lessons with Specialist Teachers

This week, during our extracurricular classes, we had a productive and engaging time. In the session with Miss Molly, we focused on practicing turn-taking using a talking stick, which helped us enhance both our listening and speaking skills. Following this, we participated in a series of yoga poses aimed at improving our balance. The session concluded with a calming star-gazing yoga practice, incorporating deep breathing techniques to foster relaxation. In our Sporty Minis session this week, the children practiced a variety of physical activities, including jumping over ladders, hopping on one foot, and balancing bean bags on different parts of their bodies. Additionally, our Dragon Flights class enjoyed a delightful music session, engaging with familiar nursery rhymes, which was led by Lucy Sparkles. It was a week full of growth and joy across all activities.
