City of London School Highlights - February 9th 2025

Another week full of fun!

We are pleased to share the highlights from another exciting week of learning, exploration, and development at Hatching Dragons City. This past week, our babies, toddlers, and preschoolers engaged in a variety of enriching activities designed to foster their cognitive, social, and emotional growth. As part of our regional focus on China and East Asia, we introduced children to the traditions, arts, and language of Chinese culture through creative, interactive, and educational experiences. Additionally, in recognition of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, we placed a special emphasis on activities that promote mindfulness, sensory exploration, and overall well-being.

Hatchlings

Our youngest learners enjoyed a week of discovery and sensory engagement. To help babies become more familiar with their bodies, we explored self-awareness activities focusing on different body parts.image (1)

Sensory play played a significant role in their learning, with stimulating experiences using sand, lights, and various textures to enhance their tactile and visual perception. Furthermore, our little ones enjoyed a delightful outing to Barbican Highwalk, where they had the opportunity to take in fresh air and engage with their surroundings in a calm and relaxed environment. image (2)

Blue Dragons

The toddlers had an immersive experience delving into the wonders of Chinese culture. They expressed their creativity through plum blossom artwork, explored the significance of bamboo and Chinese chamomile, and developed their artistic skills through themed painting sessions.image (7) As part of our bilingual approach, children were introduced to Mandarin vocabulary during these activities, engaging with our Mandarin teacher to practice pronunciation and comprehension in a fun and interactive manner.

Dragon Flight

Our preschoolers were equally captivated by Chinese culture, participating in a variety of artistic and hands-on learning experiences. During plum blossom painting, they explored traditional Chinese brush techniques and artistic styles. They also learned about the panda, a symbolic animal of China, through a panda craft activity, further deepening their cultural knowledge. Building on this theme, they examined bamboo as the panda’s primary food source and created bamboo paintings to reinforce their learning.image (5)

Another highlight of the week was the chopstick challenge, where children practiced fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination by using chopsticks to pick up pompoms while counting in Mandarin. This engaging activity promoted both cognitive and physical development.

Sporty Minis

Physical development remains a key focus at Hatching Dragons. This week, children actively participated in Sporty Minis, where they honed their balancing, coordination, and spatial awareness skills through structured physical activities that encourage movement and agility.

Molly Mindfulness

To mark Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, our yoga and mindfulness sessions with Miss Molly provided children with a peaceful and reflective space. Through breathing exercises, mindfulness techniques, and gentle yoga poses, our preschoolers developed essential self-regulation and relaxation skills, promoting emotional well-being and calmness.
