Theme of the Week: Songs, Stories & Sensory Adventures
This week was filled with songs, stories, sensory adventures, and special celebrations for our Hatchlings. From singing in Mandarin and discovering the Great Barrier Reef, to celebrating International Dog Day and enjoying specialist sessions, the children had so many joyful opportunities to learn through play.
Come see how our Hatchlings grow through language, discovery, and creativity.
Modern Languages
Our babies had a wonderful time in Mandarin circle time! Together, we sang “The Wheels on the Bus” in Mandarin, listened to summer and animal stories, and learned exciting new words including bus (Gōngchē 公車), kangaroo (dàshǔ 袋鼠), bird (niǎo 鸟), and sun (tàiyáng 太阳). The children loved joining in the songs and repeating the new sounds—building both confidence and curiosity in another language.
Regional Activity
The children explored one of Australia’s most iconic wonders through a sensory tuff tray designed as the Great Barrier Reef. Using blue playdough for sparkling water, soft foam, and gritty sand, they investigated textures and sea creatures while admiring the vibrant “coral reef.” This activity sparked wonder, imagination, and playful conversations about life under the sea.
International Dog Day
To celebrate International Dog Day, our babies made special doggy treats for our class toy dogs. They mixed, squished, and moulded playdough into tiny treats, enjoying the textures and role-playing as caring pet owners. This hands-on activity encouraged creativity, sensory play, and lots of giggles.
Specialist Sessions
In mindfulness with Miss Molly, the children wrapped up their teddy bear picnic theme. They practised the value of sharing as they poured tea for one another and ended with joy as they popped bubbles—combining hand–eye coordination with calming play.
On Friday, Miss Lucy Sparkles brought her familiar bumblebee friend for another engaging music session. The babies are becoming more confident with introductions, clapping for their peers, and showing teamwork during parachute play—building both gross motor skills and social confidence.
It’s been a joyful week of exploration and celebration for our Hatchlings. We are so proud of their curiosity, confidence, and care for one another as they continue to grow!

Theme of the Week: Creativity, Calm & Outdoor Adventures
This week, our Blue Dragons explored creativity through sensory play, mindfulness, and outdoor fun. From making beach-themed playdoh to chalk art by the museum, every activity sparked imagination, curiosity, and joy!
Come see how we prepare children for school and the world beyond.
Regional activities
Inspired by our South Pacific theme, the children created beach scenes using homemade playdoh with shells and rice. They pressed natural materials into the dough, discovering textures, patterns, and shapes. This sensory experience built fine motor skills while connecting learning to the beautiful beaches of the South Pacific.
Outdoor Play
The Blue Dragons had a wonderful outdoor adventure near the London Museum, where they decorated the pavement with chalk drawings of flowers, suns, and swirls. Their creativity soon turned into teamwork as they designed a hopscotch game, filling the afternoon with laughter, counting, jumping, and cheering.
Mindfulness with Miss Molly
In a calming mindfulness session, Miss Molly guided the children through a Teddy Bears’ Picnic, bubble play, and deep breathing under glowing star lights. These activities encouraged imagination, sensory awareness, and emotional wellbeing, helping children to relax and connect with themselves.
Sensory Play with Paint
For sensory exploration, the children used rollers dipped in bright paint to create shapes and patterns on large sheets of paper. This hands-on activity combined creativity with learning, encouraging experimentation and problem-solving while having lots of fun.
It’s been a week full of creativity, imagination, and mindful play for our Blue Dragons — we are so proud of their wonderful learning and joy!

Theme of the Month: Discovering Australia 🇦🇺
This month, our preschoolers explored the wonders of Australian culture, STEM, outdoor adventures, and mindful movement. From Aboriginal-inspired art to yoga with Miss Molly, the children had so many opportunities to create, learn, and grow together.
Come see how we prepare children for school and the world beyond.
Regional Theme
The children immersed themselves in Aboriginal art by creating dot paintings using their own hand outlines as a base. With cotton buds and bright colours, they carefully dotted patterns that reflected both creativity and focus. These vibrant artworks are now proudly displayed in the classroom, celebrating their effort and imagination.
They also enjoyed a koala-themed dot-to-dot activity, where they practiced number recognition and sequencing. Children worked carefully to connect the dots and complete their pictures, sparking conversations about koalas and their natural habitats.
STEM Learning
Our exploration of shapes led to both creative and mathematical discoveries. Some children built imaginative structures with shaped blocks, strengthening their spatial awareness, while others engaged in cutting and arranging paper shapes. These activities encouraged problem-solving, creativity, and early geometry skills.
Outdoor Adventures
Outdoor play was full of curiosity and discovery. At the fountains, children observed the movement of water, taking turns and sharing observations while exploring the spray together. On another outing, they visited the ducks, delighting in watching them swim and waddle. This sparked many questions about duck behaviour, food, and sounds, turning play into a rich learning experience.
Library Visit
Our library trip was filled with music and stories. The children joined in a sing-along session, moving and singing to familiar tunes with excitement. They also enjoyed group story time, listening attentively to the librarian and showing growing focus and comprehension. The visit supported language skills, social interaction, and built a love for books and music.
Specialist Session
During yoga, Miss Molly guided the children through mindful movements and emotions-based activities. This session helped them build emotional awareness, expand their vocabulary for feelings, and learn calming strategies—all while having fun.
Thank you for being part of their journey!
Supporting a Cause Close to Our Hearts
Hatching Dragons is proud to support our founder Cenn John, running the Cardiff Marathon this October to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Inspired by the loss of a sibling to congenital heart disease and Down’s syndrome, this fundraiser aims to help children facing life-threatening illnesses.
We would love for our Hatching Dragons community to join us in supporting this cause. Every donation, no matter how small, can help change a child's future.
