Modern Languages

This week, we revisited our autumn storybook to welcome the new season. Miss Sara brought the story to life in Mandarin, introducing new words such as pumpkin (Nánguā 南瓜) and red leaves (Hóngyè 红叶). The children loved linking the story to the world around them, building vocabulary while recognising the seasonal changes outside.

Regional Education

Our little artists discovered Ebru, the traditional Turkish art of marbling. Using foam, brushes, and their hands, they created beautiful swirling patterns in calming shades of blue. This activity encouraged early mark-making, sensory exploration, and creativity.
As part of our Middle Eastern journey, the Hatchlings also enjoyed role play in a cheerful fruit market. They became little fruit sellers, exploring the colours and textures of fruits, taking turns, sharing, and even experimenting with weighing scales. This activity combined imagination, communication, and early maths skills—all while filling the room with giggles and excitement.

Sensory Play

Our sensory adventures took us Under the Sea! The children swayed colourful scarves like seaweed, met giant ocean friends such as a whale and a shark, and worked on their hand–eye coordination by popping bubbles with joy.
In another activity, they searched through foam layers to uncover hidden sea creatures, sparking curiosity while strengthening fine motor skills and tactile awareness.

Specialist Teacher

On Wednesday, Miss Molly led a calming mindfulness session to help children feel relaxed and centred. Together, they explored different kinds of weather through joyful songs like Golden Sun and Incy Wincy Spider, ending with magical twinkling lights that filled the room with wonder.
Lucy Sparkles brought music and laughter to the baby room with egg shakers, games, and classic songs like Row, Row, Row Your Boat and Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. The children joined in with big smiles, moving their bodies to the rhythm and enjoying every moment.

It’s been a wonderful week of discovery, creativity, and cultural learning. We are so proud of how our Hatchlings explored new ideas with such curiosity and joy!

As part of our Middle Eastern theme, the Blue Dragons discovered the beauty of traditional ceramic art. With the help of their teachers, the children had the chance to try pottery-making on a wheel — an exciting first for many!
They explored the textures of clay, learned how it moves, and created their very own unique pieces. This activity encouraged creativity, sensory exploration, and fine motor development, while helping the children appreciate the artistry of another culture. We can’t wait to see their pottery masterpieces once they’re dry and ready to paint!

Specialist Teachers

Our Sporty Minis session was full of movement and fun! The children began with stretches and warm-ups before pretending to be different animals — hopping like frogs, stomping like elephants, and fluttering like butterflies.
To finish, they played an exciting hoop-throwing game, building hand–eye coordination and cheering each other on. It was a great way to stay active while practising balance, teamwork, and motor skills.

This week’s music and movement with Miss Molly was magical! We started with the cheerful Hello Song, followed by shaking egg shakers to explore rhythm and sound.
The children sang along to Wind the Bobbin Up, moved their hands with joy, and shared laughter while chasing and popping bubbles. To finish, Miss Molly guided a gentle baby yoga session, helping everyone calm their bodies before lunchtime.

Modern Languages

In Mandarin, the Blue Dragons learned the word for pumpkin — 南瓜 (nánguā). The children enjoyed repeating the word together while creating colourful pumpkin collages with red and orange paper.
This hands-on activity beautifully blended language learning, seasonal exploration, and creativity. The children were so proud of their bright and textured pumpkin art!

It was another amazing week of exploring festivals, nature, and languages. We can’t wait to see where our next adventures take us!

The children explored the beauty of Middle Eastern zigzag patterns, experimenting with shapes and colours to create their own vibrant designs. They picked up new vocabulary with confidence and proudly shared the inspiration behind their artwork.
To bring history to life, we also built pyramid-themed sensory trays filled with sand and blocks. This hands-on play sparked curiosity about ancient Egypt and encouraged imaginative exploration.

Specialist Teacher

Sporty Minis focus this week was on balance, coordination, and following instructions—all while keeping active and having fun! In Miss Molly’s Yoga the children embraced the theme of self-acceptance and inner strength through calming yoga poses, breathing techniques, and a peaceful stargazing activity. In Lucy Sparkles Music, with energy and joy, the children sang, danced, followed rhythms, and explored musical instruments, building both creativity and confidence.

Modern Language

In Mandarin, the children learned the names of the four seasons, with special attention to autumn. They talked about weather, animals, and seasonal activities, linking language learning to the natural world around them.

Outdoor Exploration

We enjoyed a sunny picnic outdoors, where the children shared fresh fruit and laughter together. A library visit gave each child the chance to choose a special book, creating a calm and joyful atmosphere during shared reading time.

It was a week filled with creativity, cultural discovery, and new learning. We are so proud of how our Dragon Flight group explored Egypt with such curiosity and joy!

Supporting a Cause Close to Our Hearts

Hatching Dragons is proud to support our founder Cenn John, running the Cardiff Marathon this October to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Inspired by the loss of a sibling to congenital heart disease and Down’s syndrome, this fundraiser aims to help children facing life-threatening illnesses.

We would love for our Hatching Dragons community to join us in supporting this cause. Every donation, no matter how small, can help change a child's future.
