The babies learned animal names in Mandarin—like tiger (老虎), dog (狗), and cat (猫) through sound games and storytelling with soft toys, boosting early speech and language development.

Regional Education: Africa

Through safari footprint painting and jungle-themed sensory play, Hatchlings explored African animals and their textures. They also enjoyed a rhythmic African drumming session to round out their learning.

International Festival: Shark Awareness Day

For Shark Awareness Day, babies created underwater scenes using blue foam. This activity helped develop motor skills while introducing the idea of marine life and ocean habitats..

A giraffe-themed sand tray encouraged babies to explore texture and patterns by adding spots to the outline, strengthening fine motor skills through calm, creative play.

Celebrating African Culture Through Language, Art, and Movement

his week, our Blue Dragons embraced the vibrant spirit of Africa through creative crafts, Mandarin learning, and energising movement. From lions and necklaces to rhythm and games, every activity supported their development while exploring global culture.

Regional Education

The children created striking lion crafts using different pasta shapes to design textured manes. This hands-on activity nurtured fine motor skills, creativity, and their understanding of African wildlife especially the mighty lion!

Modern Languages

In Mandarin, the children crafted African-inspired necklaces using coloured paper shapes. As they decorated, they learned to name each shape in Mandarin—like 圆形 (circle) and 正方形 (square) blending cultural creativity with language learning.

Specialist Teachers

Miss Molly led a joyful session starting with tambourine music and rhythm sticks, followed by playful bubble mindfulness. It all ended peacefully as the children lay under starlight projections to relax and reflect. In Sporty Minis got hearts pumping with stretches, ladder jumps, and a fun floor-crawling activity that built agility, balance, and spatial awareness.

Sound, Culture & Creative Adventures

This week, our preschoolers embarked on a sensory-rich journey—from African landscapes and languages to artistic expression and exciting city explorations!

Modern Languages

The children explored phonics through safari-inspired sound play. From growling like lions to hissing like snakes, they practiced beginning letter sounds and matched them with African animal pictures—making sound-symbol learning wild and fun!

Regional Education

We continued our cultural journey across Africa. Children made and tasted Mandazi, a sweet East African treat, learning about traditional cooking. Inspired by African art, they painted safari animal prints using stencils, paint, and natural textures zebras, giraffes, elephants and more! These creative activities encouraged cultural awareness and fine motor skills.

Amazing Excursion

This week’s trip took us to Tate Modern, where the children explored modern art and practiced sketching shapes and colours. A scenic walk across Millennium Bridge gave us stunning views and sparked wonderful discussions about buildings, design, and creativity.

Specialist Teachers

Mindful Molly brought calming movement, joyful music, and breathing games—nurturing self-regulation and emotional well-being. The Sporty Minis geared up for Sports Day with relays, balance challenges, and team fun. Confidence and coordination are growing fast!

Supporting a Cause Close to Our Hearts

Hatching Dragons is proud to support our founder Cenn John, running the Cardiff Marathon this October to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Inspired by the loss of a sibling to congenital heart disease and Down’s syndrome, this fundraiser aims to help children facing life-threatening illnesses.

We would love for our Hatching Dragons community to join us in supporting this cause. Every donation, no matter how small, can help change a child's future.
