Theme of the Week: Language, Culture, and Sensory Discovery in South America!
Our Baby Dragons had a week full of colourful learning, sensory fun, and cultural discovery! From exploring the sounds and flavours of South America to dancing to Brazilian music and experimenting with bubbles, the babies engaged all their senses while developing early communication, motor, and thinking skills.
Language and Communication
This week, we began our exciting new theme — South America!
During Mandarin class, the children learned new words for fruits, including apple (píngguǒ), banana (xiāngjiāo), and mango (mángguǒ). They listened carefully and tried to repeat the sounds, building listening and early speech skills.
We also read a vibrant story about animals from Brazil! The children loved spotting the jaguar, toucan, and monkey, imitating their sounds and movements while talking about where they live. These moments encouraged early vocabulary, sound recognition, and expressive communication.
In Makaton, we focused on the signs for big and small, helping the babies express size and comparison through words and actions.
During Bag Time, we explored jungle animals together — taking turns, naming, and describing each one. This supported early social and communication development in a fun, interactive way.
STEM
Our little scientists had a wonderful time exploring milk, colours, and bubbles through hands-on sensory play. They watched the bubbles float and pop, developing curiosity, focus, and hand–eye coordination.
In our “Let’s Fix” construction activity, the babies mixed different textures and materials, learning how things change when combined. These experiences encouraged early problem-solving, creativity, and sensory discovery — all through messy, joyful play!
Regional Education
Our regional learning took us all the way to Brazil this week!
During circle time, the babies looked at photos of famous Brazilian landmarks, colourful wildlife, and the Amazon rainforest. They listened to lively Brazilian instrumental music and had a joyful dance session while popping bubbles!
This playful cultural experience helped develop listening, rhythm, coordination, and sensory engagement, while sparking curiosity about the wider world.
Specialist Teachers
On Wednesday, the babies joined Miss Molly for a mindful, sensory music and movement session. They explored a variety of textures and sounds, building focus and awareness.
To celebrate Bonfire Night, the children sang and moved along to “Zoom Zoom”, giggling as they pretended to zoom through the sky like fireworks!
We ended the morning with calming sensory lights — a peaceful moment that helped everyone unwind and feel secure after a busy day of learning and play.
A big thank you to all our parents for your continued support and encouragement. Each week, your little ones bring so much joy and curiosity to our nursery

Theme of the Week: Bonfire Night, STEM Discovery & Early Learning Sparks
This week, our Blue Dragons celebrated Bonfire Night with Miss Molly through art, music, and storytelling, filling the classroom with colour, creativity, and excitement! The children also explored maths and science through hands-on experiments and sensory play — from filling shapes with sand to testing which objects sink or float. Alongside this, we continued our focus on phonics and Makaton, supporting communication, curiosity, and early learning development
Thinking about how we bring global culture and sensory-rich learning to life for toddlers?
Math
In maths, the children explored shape, size, and capacity through a calming sand-filling activity. Using scoops and spoons, they filled containers of various shapes — circles, squares, and triangles — while comparing which ones held more or less sand.
This sensory exploration supported their early understanding of measurement and spatial awareness, as well as developing patience, control, and coordination.
Phonics
Our sound of the week was M! The children practised recognising and saying the “mmm” sound, identifying familiar words beginning with M — like moon, mummy, and monster. They traced the letter in sand and other sensory materials, strengthening their fine motor control and letter formation.
Listening games helped them tune into sounds in their environment, building a solid foundation for early reading and phonics awareness.
Specialist Teacher
Our Bonfire Night celebrations were full of sparkle and creativity! The children learned about the meaning behind the event and explored the sights, sounds, and colours of fireworks. Using bright paints, glitter, and stamping tools, they created stunning firework-inspired artwork on black paper.
The classroom glittered with their colourful creations, and the children proudly shared their work, noticing patterns, shapes, and vibrant colours. This activity encouraged artistic confidence, fine motor skills, and sensory exploration.
STEM
This week’s science experiment combined STEM and maths learning through a fun “Sink or Swim” investigation! The children predicted which objects would float and which would sink, then tested their ideas through hands-on play.
They also counted how many rubber ducks could fit before a floating object began to sink, exploring mass, balance, and problem-solving in action. The children were engaged and enthusiastic, asking questions and sharing their discoveries with friends.
Modern Language
Our Makaton word of the week was sky! The children loved looking up and observing the clouds, sun, and changing colours of the day. They practised the Makaton sign with growing confidence, understanding how signs help us express ideas and communicate clearly.
A warm thank you to all our families for your continued support and enthusiasm. Each week, your children bring so much joy and curiosity into our classroom

Theme of the Week: Fireworks, Festivals, and Fascinating Discoveries!
This week, our Preschoolers embarked on a journey of discovery — learning about Bonfire Night traditions, exploring the wonders of South America, and diving into the science of volcanoes and fireworks! Through hands-on experiments, creative art, and lively discussions, the children strengthened their curiosity, creativity, and understanding of the world around them. It was a week full of colour, learning, and joyful exploration
Curious about how we combine culture, confidence, and creativity in the early years?
Bonfire Night Learning
The children spent time learning about the meaning and traditions of Bonfire Night in the UK. They discussed why the event is celebrated and explored its story in a simple, child-friendly way. Everyone was fascinated by how fireworks light up the sky with bright shapes and colours!
We also talked about firework safety, helping children understand how adults ensure everyone stays safe during the celebrations.
As part of their learning, the children created firework-themed artwork using splatter painting, stamping, and colour blending. These creative activities encouraged fine motor development, artistic expression, and a deeper understanding of seasonal cultural celebrations.
Regional Education
Our global learning journey continued as the children discovered fascinating facts about South America — a continent rich in vibrant culture, diverse landscapes, and colourful traditions.
We introduced the Amazon Rainforest and discussed animals like parrots, jaguars, and monkeys, which captured the children’s imagination. They also explored South American music and dance, noticing the rhythm and lively movement in traditional festivals.
Through stories, pictures, and discussions, the children recognised landmarks like Machu Picchu and Angel Falls, developing their geographical awareness and curiosity about life across the world.
Volcano Studies
In science, our budding geologists explored the fascinating world of volcanoes!
They learned that volcanoes are mountains that can erupt, releasing lava, ash, and gases. Through videos and visuals, the children observed real eruptions and discussed how these natural events can shape the Earth’s surface.
A hands-on demonstration helped them visualise how lava flows, connecting scientific ideas to real-life observation. This activity encouraged critical thinking, vocabulary building, and scientific reasoning in a fun and engaging way.
Science Club
During Science Club, the children took part in a stunning experiment called “Fireworks in Water.”
Using food colouring, oil, and water, they watched colourful bursts descend through the jar — just like real fireworks!
Through observation and prediction, they explored basic scientific ideas about density, liquid behaviour, and cause and effect. This calm and sensory-rich activity supported focus, language development, and curiosity, making science both magical and meaningful.
Creative Firework Art
The creative area was alive with sparkle and colour this week!
The children experimented with chalks, paints, and glitter glue to create their own firework displays on dark backgrounds. They talked about the shapes and patterns they made, proudly sharing their artwork with friends.
These art experiences encouraged fine motor control, hand–eye coordination, and artistic confidence, while helping children connect creative expression to cultural learning about Bonfire Night.
Specialist Teachers
Our specialist sessions this week were all about movement and mindfulness.
With Coach Jack, the children practised balance, coordination, and teamwork through running, jumping, and fun group activities.
During Miss Molly’s yoga class, they enjoyed gentle stretches and calming breathing exercises, helping to develop flexibility, strength, and focus.
These sessions supported the children’s physical confidence, wellbeing, and self-regulation, rounding off another wonderful week of learning and play.
A heartfelt thank you to our Dragon Flights families for your continued encouragement and support. It’s been a magical week of learning, laughter, and light
