Baby Room
Theme of the Week: Language, Sensory Discovery, and Halloween Fun!
This week in the Baby Dragons room, our little learners explored the beauty of language, light, and culture through stories, songs, and sensory play. From signing and singing to celebrating Diwali and discovering the wonders of North America, it’s been a week full of joyful learning, laughter, and creativity.
Language and Communication
Our Baby Dragons had a wonderful week exploring sounds, words, and communication through songs, stories, and playful interaction. During story time, we read Baby Boo by Sarah Vince — the babies listened carefully, pointed to pictures, and joined in with sounds and actions, saying words like “boo!”, “dog!”, and “hi!”, which supported their early vocabulary and attention skills. In our Makaton session, we focused on greetings like “hello” and “goodbye,” encouraging the use of gestures to build both verbal and non-verbal communication.
We also explored Mandarin words for body parts — head (tóu), eyes (yǎn jīng), ears (ěr duo), and nose (bí zi) — through interactive songs and movement. The children joyfully sang along to “Incy Wincy Spider” and our body songs, clapping, pointing, and naming parts, which strengthened listening, coordination, and memory. Circle time was filled with giggles as we played peekaboo and talked about “ghosts” and “our little house,” helping develop turn-taking, social skills, and early speech. It’s been a fantastic week full of language-rich, joyful moments!
International Festivals
This week, we celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights! The babies dressed up in colourful clothes, made sparkly diyas, and decorated beautiful rangoli patterns. We filled the room with light and laughter, dancing to Diwali music and enjoying the bright, joyful atmosphere. It was a truly special celebration of colour, music, and togetherness.
Regional Education – North America
This week, our babies went on a sensory journey to Canada as part of our North America theme! Through colourful, hands-on activities, the children explored Canadian culture and nature while developing early language and motor skills.
We painted bright red and white Canadian flags, feeling the textures of the paint and learning colour words like “red!” and “white!” The little ones also discovered Canadian animals — bears, moose, and beavers — through sensory play, sounds, and pictures. During bucket play, they loved naming the animals, making sounds like “roar!” and “moo!”, and expressing curiosity about the world. It was a week full of discovery, fine motor practice, and imaginative play.
Celebrations and Events
Our Halloween celebration was a huge success! Parents joined in for a special Mindful Molly session filled with music, movement, and sensory play. The babies explored spooky potions, the pumpkin patch, and our playdough centre, where they created tiny ghosts, witches, and pumpkins. These activities encouraged fine motor development, creativity, and early communication as children pointed, babbled, and used new words like “pumpkin!” and “boo!”.
Having parents, children, and practitioners together made it a truly joyful community event — full of laughter, exploration, and festive fun!
STEM
Our babies explored science and discovery through Halloween-themed STEAM play! They loved scooping out real pumpkin seeds, feeling the slimy textures, and observing how the seeds looked and felt — a fantastic way to engage the senses and strengthen fine motor control.
They also played with spooky sensory bags filled with coloured water, glitter, and little Halloween shapes, squishing and watching how the contents moved and changed. The discovery bottles were a big hit too, as babies shook them to see sparkly “ghosts” and “bats” float around inside! These activities encouraged early problem-solving, curiosity, and sensory awareness — turning every moment into magical learning.
A big thank you to all our parents for your continued support and encouragement. Each week, your little ones bring so much joy and curiosity to our nursery

Theme of the Week: Colourful Discoveries, Language Fun & Halloween Creativity!
What a fantastic week it’s been for our Blue Dragons! The children have been busy exploring colours, sounds, and movement through hands-on activities and creative play. From science experiments and phonics hunts to sports challenges and festive crafts, every moment was filled with laughter, learning, and teamwork.
Thinking about how we bring global culture and sensory-rich learning to life for toddlers?
STEM & Math
Our little scientists had a wonderful time experimenting with colours this week! They mixed their favourite shades together — watching in awe as red and yellow became orange, and blue and red turned purple. Along the way, they practised measuring and pouring using cups and beakers, learning about quantity and comparison through practical play. It was a bright, sensory experience that sparked curiosity and cooperation among friends.
Phonics
In Phonics, the children set off on an exciting letter treasure hunt for the sound of the week — “S”! They searched high and low to find objects beginning with the letter, spotting snakes, spiders, and even hidden letters around the classroom. This interactive game helped build their listening, observation, and sound recognition skills in a fun and active way.
Specialist Teacher
Our sports session was packed with energy and teamwork! The children played tug-of-war, testing their strength and coordination while cheering each other on. They also navigated a lively obstacle course, balancing, crawling, and jumping their way through. The popular “Traffic Light Cones” game added extra fun, helping children practise reaction, balance, and focus while listening carefully to instructions.
Arts & Crafts Creations
Halloween excitement was in full swing as our Blue Dragons created their own pumpkin artworks using paint, glitter, and natural materials like leaves. Each pumpkin had its own unique design — some spooky, some funny, all fantastic! The children loved expressing their creativity and proudly displayed their festive masterpieces around the classroom, transforming it into a bright and cheerful Halloween corner.
Modern Language
Our Mandarin garden session was a lovely mix of language, movement, and nature. The children sang cheerful Mandarin songs outdoors and learned new words linked to our Halloween theme — including “spider” (蜘蛛 zhī zhū). Everyone joined in the actions and rhythm of the song, reinforcing vocabulary through music and joyful expression.
A warm thank you to all our families for your continued support and enthusiasm. Each week, your children bring so much joy and curiosity into our classroom

Spooky Halloween Creations
This week, our Preschoolers let their creativity shine through a variety of Halloween-themed crafts. They made witch broomsticks and colourful pumpkin paper creations, using glue, paper, and natural materials to bring their spooky ideas to life.
While crafting, the children chatted about Halloween symbols and their own traditions at home, developing their communication skills and seasonal vocabulary. It was a fun-filled way to combine imagination with fine motor practice — and the classroom looked delightfully festive!
Writing and Tracing
Our little writers focused on early writing and tracing skills, using pencils, crayons, and tracing sheets to build hand control and coordination. The children were so proud of their progress, showing off their neat lines and patterns to friends and teachers.
These sessions are an important foundation for future writing, promoting focus, confidence, and perseverance through engaging, hands-on learning.
Music with Teacher Joanna
Music time with Teacher Joanna was filled with rhythm and laughter! The children experimented with different instruments, discovering how sounds are made by shaking, tapping, and strumming.
They learned to move in time with the beat, take turns, and listen carefully — all while having fun as a group. Joanna’s sessions always bring joy and teamwork to the classroom, helping children express themselves through music and movement.
Exploring Nature
The change of season inspired an exciting outdoor adventure! The children explored the garden, collecting autumn leaves, twigs, and acorns, and noticing how colours shift from green to red, yellow, and brown.
This sensory exploration encouraged observation and vocabulary building, as they described textures, shapes, and colours. It was a beautiful way to connect with nature and understand how the world changes around us.
Garden Singing Session
To end the week, the children enjoyed a special singing session in the garden. Each child confidently performed a favourite song while friends clapped and cheered in support.
These moments of shared celebration helped strengthen confidence, friendship, and belonging, creating a warm and uplifting end to a busy week.
Welcome Back for Half Term
We had a heartwarming reunion this week as our Dragon Flights alumni returned to visit during their school break! It was wonderful to see how much they’ve grown, and the joy on everyone’s faces as they reconnected with teachers and friends was truly special. They quickly joined back into play, reminding us how strong the Hatching Dragons community truly is.
A heartfelt thank you to our Dragon Flights families for your continued encouragement and support. It’s been a magical week of learning, laughter, and light
