North American Adventure

This week, our classroom was buzzing with excitement as the children dove into a brand-new geographical theme – North America!

Through a range of interactive activities, children explored the diverse landscapes, cultures, and wonders of this fascinating continent.

As we are just opening on learning about North America children started with mapping the continent.

The children were introduced some important features and habitats of each country and had opportunities to identify some of the major countries in North America.

This includes the United States, Canada, and Mexico and Greenland, with main focus this week on Greenland, Canada, and Alaska.

They enjoyed discovering beautiful landscapes, natural habitats and what animals live there, through stories, games, painting deep forests of Canada.

They also learned about the popular ‘exploration table’ focusing on communication and interaction, sharing of opinions and views, as well as practicing memory in a fun and engaging way.

Understanding emotions and self-regulation

Along with geography, we’ve been focusing on another important topic: Our Emotions and Feelings!

Children explored self-awareness through variety of activities, such as using visual cards and emotions sacks, which helped them to recognise different emotions.

As teachers, we are here to help children to co-regulate their emotions and show them ways they can manage their big feelings effectively.

Children had opportunity to share with us what makes them sad, for some it may be wasps, rubbish or thunderstorms and what makes them happy for example, playgrounds, cakes and music or cuddles!

Oral Health

We are also excited that this week we paid extra attention learning about oral health!

Our preschooler learned about the  importance of brushing teeth to keep them clean and healthy.

We practiced brushing teeth using a teeth model and laminated smiles with shaving foam, which got a bit messy and fun!

We also talked about foods that are good for our teeth, like fruits, vegetables, cheese, milk and water.

The children learned that sugary foods and drinks, like sweet, chocolate and juice, can hurt their teeth if eaten too often.

Baby Room

Transportation

Our babies started to learn about transportation through sensory activities and interactions with their surroundings.

This gave them foundation for their understanding of vehicles, how they move and move people, for example buses or trains or they move things and objects, such as trucks and tractors.

We mainly focused on children having the opportunity to explore the shapes, marks and colours cars made and the movement.

For example children used different vehicles to print their marks in playdough or had lots of fun exploring different ways tractors and trucks move.

Babies included the cars and trucks in their construction play, creating roads and tracks for vehicles which helped children observe cars in motion.

Rosh Hashanah

Children in both, Baby Room and Preschool, were introduced to Rosh Hashanah through simple engaging activities to help them understand the meaning of the Jewish holiday.

Children learned that Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year which is a special time for new beginnings and reflection.

This gave them the opportunity to learn about kindness and thinking of their actions impacting others.

Children took part in a variety of festival activities such as printing apples over the jar of honey, as apple & honey are symbols for Rosh Hashanah.

They also created paper pomegranate and its seeds, symbolising a wish for the New Year filled with many merits.
