Canada Water School Highlights - October 11, 2024

We’ve have had an exciting time exploring a variety of fascinating topics over the past few days with our babies and preschoolers!

1-Oct-11-2024-04-26-45-2425-PM

The children have been learning about the wonders of the outer space as part of celebration of

The Space Week and we are embarking on an exciting journey to learn about the rich diversity of the United States of America, its natural habitats and animals.

3-Oct-11-2024-04-26-32-8919-PM

Babies continued to explore transportation and movements through variety of activities where children have opportunities to explore ways of moving and different ways of traveling.

Each theme has sparked curiosity, creativity, fun activities and discussions in the classrooms.

Space Week

Our little space explorers went on a journey to explore space and planets.

Through engaging and fun activities they learned basic concepts like shapes, such as round planets, sizes and distance (near and far).

This helped them to improve their cognitive and reasoning skills.

2-Oct-11-2024-04-26-32-6764-PM

Our babies specifically enjoyed multi-sensory activity, with lights and sensory tray.

Children had opportunities to take part in discussions about planets, stars, and other celestial objects , expanding their vocabulary and language comprehension.

We encouraged children’s curiosity about space by asking questions about space.

Simple questions, such as why the Sun rises or why the Moon changes shapes, encouraged our preschoolers’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Children enjoyed songs and rhymes linked to space theme such as 5 Little Man In a Flying Saucer, Zoom, zoom, zoom we’re Flying to the Moon.

North America

We are continuing on an exciting journey to learn about North America, with a special focus on the natural habitats of the USA and the fascinating animals that call these places home.

From vast deserts and towering mountain ranges to lush forests and coastal shores, these regions are home to a variety of animals that thrive in each ecosystem.

4-Oct-11-2024-04-26-32-7018-PM

Our favourite animals this week was the iconic Bald Eagle, children enjoyed learning about this majestic animal through stories, learning discussions, craft or physical games as well as yoga and meditation inspired with the movement of an eagle.

Native American Culture & Heritage

As part of our learning about North America and with our focus on the United States our preschoolers were introduced the rich traditions, history, and values of the Native American peoples in an age-appropriate and respectful way.

6-2

Native Americans have a deep connection to nature, community, and storytelling.

These values offer wonderful lessons for young children, such as respecting the environment, valuing family and friends, and understanding different cultures.

7-1

As we started our learning journey about Native Americans this week we focused on Storytelling, its importance in the culture to share values, history or about the educational purpose in storytelling.

5-4

We explored that through activities such as story times, using picture stories or even creating or own stories using Native American pictures and icons or our own representation of the story, this mark-making activity encouraged children to use marks to express their thoughts as well as practice pencil control, hand eye coordination and the use of their imagination.

Grandparents Day!

On Monday, we celebrated Grandparents Day.

This special day gave us the opportunity to explore themes of family, love, and appreciation for the older generations who play such an important role in our lives.

Grandparents were invited to come to the nursery for a morning session to enjoy quality time with their grandchildren, creating artwork together and learning how we call grandmothers or grandfathers in different languages.

Next week, we will be focusing on the music and dance of Native Americans.

We’ll introduce the children to Native American music and encourage them to participate in simple, rhythmic dances and meditation exercises.

We will also look how Native Americans lived and live now.

Our partnership with Little Village

As an early years education and childcare institution, we put great value on helping children in need.

This is why we partnered with Little Village, an organization that helps babies and young children living in poverty all across London.
