Baby Dragons Newsletter
Language, Movement & Multicultural Fun
This week in the baby room, our little ones explored vibrant colours, African animals and art, and enjoyed lively sessions with our specialist teachers—all while building communication, creativity, and coordination.
Curious about how we help our youngest learners thrive through play and care? Book a visit to our nursery today and see it for yourself!
Modern Languages & Communication
During Mandarin time, the children explored colours through animal-themed picture cards and coin-matching games. They guessed and named the colours of their coins before placing them in matching slots, building vocabulary, focus, and confidence in recognising colours in Mandarin.
STEAM: African Wildlife Painting
Our babies created colourful animal prints of safari wildlife like lions, zebras, and giraffes. This sensory-rich painting activity supported fine motor development while introducing them to the world of African animals.
Regional Education: Kente Cloth Art
Inspired by traditional Ghanaian Kente cloth, the children painted bright patterns onto popsicle sticks. This creative activity encouraged artistic expression and introduced them to the colours and culture of Ghana.
Specialist Teachers
In Miss Molly's Mindfulness session the babies sang a buzzing bee song with plushies and shakers, popped bubbles with glee, and joined in for “Hickory Dickory Dock” using musical instruments. The session supported rhythm, focus, and emotional regulation through joyful sensory play.
Sporty Minis
This week’s Sporty Minis focused on balance and hand-eye coordination. Babies crawled, stepped, and reached through mini obstacle courses, strengthening their bodies and boosting confidence in a fun, active environment.

From Colours to Cocoa: Exploring Africa & Ourselves
This week, our preschoolers explored African ecosystems, celebrated World Chocolate Day, dove into colours in Mandarin, and strengthened their bodies and minds through creative outdoor and specialist activities.
Modern Languages and Communication: Mandarin – Colours
Children began a new Mandarin topic: colours! They learned to say red (红色 hóng sè), yellow (黄色 huáng sè), green (绿色 lǜ sè), and pink (粉色 fěn sè). Using games like sorting tokens into matching coloured pockets and creating bright clown hair, they had fun while practicing new vocabulary and pronunciation.
New Words: yán sè (colour), hóng sè (red), huáng sè (yellow), lǜ sè (green), fěn sè (pink)
Regional Education: African Habitats
This week, we explored two distinct African ecosystems:
Sahara Desert: Children learned about sand dunes, extreme heat, and desert animals like camels and fennec foxes. They made their own paper-layered desert scenes.
Savanna Grasslands: We explored wildlife like lions, giraffes, and zebras. Using magnifying glasses, children examined animal patterns and recreated them using glue, felt, and tissue paper.
Amazing Excursions
Taking advantage of the warm weather, the children enjoyed running, climbing, and painting outdoors. Water and foam play supported sensory exploration, and during a special outdoor session, the children painted lion faces, showing confidence and creativity in their artwork.
Festival of the Week: World Chocolate Day
Children explored African-style mud houses by building their own with clay, hay, and sticks. This hands-on engineering task helped them understand sustainable living, structure, and problem-solving—just like real little architects.
STEAM Focus: Building Mud Houses
Children used coffee to stain paper like aged parchment, then wrote creative “letters to future me,” linking science with self-reflection and imagination.
Specialist Teachers
In Miss Molly’s Mindfulness session children stretched into yoga poses, explored body movements, and practiced storytelling relaxation exercises. These sessions helped them strengthen flexibility and learn to calm their minds and bodies.
Sporty Minis
Thursday morning was packed with fun physical games! Children raced, navigated obstacle courses, and laughed their way through the “shark attack” game—developing agility, confidence, and teamwork.
Thank you for another fantastic week of learning, movement, and imagination. See you next week!
Supporting a Cause Close to Our Hearts
Hatching Dragons is proud to support our founder Cenn John, running the Cardiff Marathon this October to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Inspired by the loss of a sibling to congenital heart disease and Down’s syndrome, this fundraiser aims to help children facing life-threatening illnesses.
We would love for our Hatching Dragons community to join us in supporting this cause. Every donation, no matter how small, can help change a child's future.
In case you missed our update last week regarding important changes—including the new fee structure starting 1st September 2025—we kindly ask you to review the details.
