Learning about Africa and the Summer!
This week, our babies explored African wildlife through outdoor zebra painting, created sunny sponge art, matched Mandarin words for animals and food, and moved joyfully in specialist sessions full of music, mindfulness, and summer fun.
Come see how we blend global learning, creativity, and communication.
Modern Languages & Communication
Using paper cut-outs, children matched animals to their favourite foods while practicing Mandarin words like “niú” (cow), “cǎo” (grass), “tùzi” (rabbit), and “húluóbo” (carrot). This playful game built vocabulary and language connections.
STEAM
Children used sponges and bright paints to create sun-inspired artwork, learning about the sun while strengthening hand control and exploring colour blending.
Regional Education
Children painted zebras using black stripes and green grass outdoors, sparking curiosity about African animals while developing their creativity and fine motor skills.
Specialist Teachers
This week, children enjoyed buzzing like bees, dancing with pom-poms, and popping bubbles in Miss Molly’s Mindful Movement, before winding down with calming lights and sensory toys. In Lucy Sparkles Music & Movement, they sang under a rainbow parachute, played shakers to the beat, and explored textures during mindful listening—fostering rhythm, focus, and sensory awareness.

Exploring Africa, Embracing Summer & Celebrating Art!
As summer arrived in full swing, our preschoolers began their journey into Africa, explored new Mandarin words, splashed through heatwave activities, and celebrated Children’s Art Week with joyful creativity.
Modern Languages and Communication
Children practiced Mandarin animal and food words like panda, dog, and cat through the “Feed the Animals” game, combining language learning with fun and movement.
Regional Education
We began our Africa journey by mapping the continent, exploring its habitats and wildlife, and building a large Africa puzzle—boosting geography and cultural understanding.
Summer Fun & Self-Care
To beat the heat, children enjoyed water play, explored ice, and cooled off with ice lollies while learning sun safety with hats, sunscreen, and hydration.
Festival of the Week: Children’s Art Week
Inspired by joyful artworks, children shared ideas and created a group painting, learning about expression, collaboration, and celebration through art.
STEAM Focus
Children used coffee to stain paper like aged parchment, then wrote creative “letters to future me,” linking science with self-reflection and imagination.
Specialist Teachers
Miss Molly’s session mixed movement and mindfulness with dancing, yoga, and rhythmic play—helping children stay active while learning to relax and focus.
Thank you for another wonderful week of exploration, learning, and fun!
Supporting a Cause Close to Our Hearts
Hatching Dragons is proud to support our founder Cenn John, running the Cardiff Marathon this October to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Inspired by the loss of a sibling to congenital heart disease and Down’s syndrome, this fundraiser aims to help children facing life-threatening illnesses.
We would love for our Hatching Dragons community to join us in supporting this cause. Every donation, no matter how small, can help change a child's future.
In case you missed our update last week regarding important changes—including the new fee structure starting 1st September 2025—we kindly ask you to review the details.
