Modern Languages & Communication

This week, we had a vibrant Mandarin-inspired art session using fresh fruits and vegetables as stamps!
Our little ones explored slices of xī guā (watermelon), cǎo méi (strawberry), hú luó bo (carrot), and cài huā (cauliflower), dipping them into paint and stamping colourful prints on paper.
As they played, we introduced each fruit’s Mandarin name, helping them link language with colour, shape, and texture. A wonderfully sensory and educational experience!

STEAM

Inspired by the traditions of African art, the babies created their own colourful masks this week. Using paint and paper, they explored bold patterns and shapes, learning about how masks are used in African storytelling and celebrations.
Each mask was as unique as its creator—showcasing creativity while connecting with culture.

Regional Education

Our babies explored the ancient world of Egyptian jewellery by creating colourful bangles! They carefully selected stones and gems to glue onto their designs, learning about gemstones like lapis lazuli and turquoise, often worn by pharaohs.
It was a beautiful way to blend history and creativity, and the babies proudly wore their sparkly creations!

International Festival

To celebrate International Tiger Day, our Baby Dragons made their very own tiger masks!
Using tiger-print paper and fabric, they brought these majestic animals to life while learning fun tiger facts and why protecting them matters.
The children loved wearing their creations and roaring together—it was a perfect mix of art, awareness, and pretend play.

Specialist Teachers

This week’s Mindful Molly session was full of rhythm and relaxation. We sang along to buzzing bee songs, used tambourines to keep the beat, and popped floating bubbles with delight. The children also enjoyed bringing Hickory Dickory Dock to life with instruments.
In Sporty Minis, our youngest learners practiced their hand-eye coordination through gentle ball games. They took turns rolling and bouncing colourful balls to each other, focusing, giggling, and building those important motor skills.

Theme of the Week: Imagination, Exploration & Expression

This week in preschool was bursting with colour, curiosity, and creativity. From majestic mountains and magnificent tigers to Mandarin fruits and outdoor picnics, our children explored the world through language, nature, movement, and hands-on art.

Colourful Fruits in Mandarin
This week, we extended our Mandarin learning to include fruits and vegetables. Children practised saying the names of familiar foods in Chinese, using both words and colours.
They also played a fun, interactive game with Teacher Xiao—listening for Mandarin instructions and matching colourful items to the correct colour cards. It was a fantastic way to support listening, memory, and language development.

Regional Education

Our African adventure continued with a journey to Mount Kilimanjaro—the tallest mountain in Africa! Children were amazed to learn it’s a dormant volcano and features different ecosystems as you climb. Inspired by this, they created a large collaborative art piece using layered textures: silver foil for snow, green moss for rainforest, brown fabric for moorland, and more.
This sensory-rich project encouraged teamwork, creativity, and fine motor skills—all while learning about geography and biodiversity.

Celebration

To mark International Tiger Day, we spent the day learning all about these magnificent creatures. Children discovered that no two tigers have the same stripes—and this inspired them to create their own tiger art using various materials to design unique patterns.
Our story sessions, discussions, and tiger face painting added excitement and encouraged imaginative play. It was a roaring success!

STEAM

Continuing our tiger theme, children got creative with edible tiger food art!
Using rice crackers and natural food dyes, they designed tiger-striped snacks—exploring patterns, colours, and textures. This activity supported sensory exploration, fine motor skills, and early maths (like measuring ingredients). It was a fun and delicious way to blend science, art, and imagination.

Specialist Teachers

Each week, our specialist teachers bring rich experiences to support children’s physical and creative growth.
In Miss Molly’s Yoga class children practised mindfulness, balance, and gentle movement—boosting body awareness and emotional calm.

In Sporty Minis children played with full energy and teamwork, the active games supported gross motor skills and confidence.

In Lucy Sparkles children ended the week with music, singing, and dancing encouraging rhythm, expression, and language in a joyful setting.

Outdoor Learning

This week’s beautiful weather made for wonderful outdoor fun!

Children enjoyed storytime in the garden, bracelet-making for fine motor skill development, and a shared picnic that encouraged conversation, turn-taking, and independence.

Outdoor experiences like these help support well-being, physical coordination, and social development.

Supporting a Cause Close to Our Hearts

Hatching Dragons is proud to support our founder Cenn John, running the Cardiff Marathon this October to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Inspired by the loss of a sibling to congenital heart disease and Down’s syndrome, this fundraiser aims to help children facing life-threatening illnesses.

We would love for our Hatching Dragons community to join us in supporting this cause. Every donation, no matter how small, can help change a child's future.
