Modern Languages & Communication

The children explored French colours through art and play. Using watercolours and pipettes, they mixed red (rouge), yellow (jaune), and blue (bleu) to create new shades while repeating the colour names in French. This fun activity blended creativity with early language learning.

Regional Education

Our little ones created their own outback landscapes with sand, rocks, hay, and Aboriginal symbols. As they built their imaginative scenes, we shared simple stories from Aboriginal culture, sparking conversations about Australia’s land and traditions.

STEM

The children painted kangaroos using dot art techniques, applying colourful dots with their fingers. This sensory experience developed fine motor skills while introducing them to the storytelling traditions of Aboriginal art. The children were fascinated by how dots could represent animals, land, and nature.

Festival of the Week – Humanitarian Day

To mark Humanitarian Day, the children created a world of colourful handprints. Each child added their unique mark to form a caring globe, celebrating kindness and reminding us that even the smallest hands can make a big difference.

Specialist Teachers

In Miss Molly’s session, the children sang “I’m a Little Teapot” while wearing bear ears, danced to the “Teddy Bear Song,” and popped bubbles with delight. They ended with calming sensory play using shakers and twinkling lights — the perfect close to a joyful session.

Thank you for another wonderful week of exploration and laughter with our Baby Dragons. We can’t wait to see what next week brings!

Theme of the Week: Discovering Aboriginal Art, Symbols, and Stories

This week, our preschoolers embarked on a creative journey into Australia’s rich culture, exploring Aboriginal symbols, storytelling, art, and traditions. Alongside outdoor adventures, STEM learning, and mindful movement with Miss Molly, the children experienced a week full of imagination, exploration, and meaningful connections.

Modern Languages & Communication

The children explored Aboriginal symbols as a unique way of sharing stories and recording ideas. They learned that each symbol carries meaning — such as waterholes, meetings, or animal tracks — and enjoyed experimenting with mark-making to include symbols in their own creative storytelling and artworks.

Regional Education

Our preschoolers were introduced to Aboriginal art, learning how patterns, colours, and symbols record history and knowledge. Inspired, they created their own dot paintings, decorated boomerangs, and added Aboriginal symbols to their pictures. A highlight was exploring the Dreamtime story of the Rainbow Serpent, which explains the origins of rivers and land. The children brought the story to life by sculpting snakes from playdough and collaborating on a giant rainbow serpent artwork, celebrating teamwork and creativity.

Outdoor Learning

The children spent plenty of time outdoors, digging and building in the sandpit, cooling off with water play, and creating imaginative “nature soups” and “potions.” From climbing and balancing to designing sand creations inspired by Australia’s Uluru, the outdoor environment encouraged curiosity, cooperation, and physical development while keeping play joyful and refreshing.

STEM

Through role play as doctors and nurses, the children explored medical tools such as thermometers, stethoscopes, and blood pressure monitors. This hands-on experience supported early science learning, helping them understand how the body works and how technology assists in caring for health.

Specialist Teachers

In Miss Molly’s session, the children combined yoga with imaginative storytelling about forest animals. Moving like brown bears, stretching, and practicing mindful breathing, they built coordination, self-regulation, and body awareness while having fun connecting with the natural world through movement.

Thank you for joining us on this week’s adventures! Our preschoolers continue to amaze us with their creativity, curiosity, and teamwork

Supporting a Cause Close to Our Hearts

Hatching Dragons is proud to support our founder Cenn John, running the Cardiff Marathon this October to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Inspired by the loss of a sibling to congenital heart disease and Down’s syndrome, this fundraiser aims to help children facing life-threatening illnesses.

We would love for our Hatching Dragons community to join us in supporting this cause. Every donation, no matter how small, can help change a child's future.
