Celebrating Summer, Cultures & Creativity
Here’s a look at the joyful learning and play in the Baby Room this week—filled with languages, sensory fun, culture, and movement!
Curious about how we help our youngest learners thrive through play and care?
Modern Languages & Communication
Children made lion faces using pasta manes and googly eyes. As they worked, they were introduced to simple French words like lion (le lion), pâtes (pasta), and yeux (eyes). This creative activity supported language development and early bilingual awareness in a fun and playful way.
STEAM
To celebrate summer, the babies used plastic bottles to stamp colourful flowers onto paper. They also practiced French words like fleur (flower) and été (summer), linking creative expression with early science and language learning.
Regional Education
We explored African wildlife through a leopard-themed activity.Children used cardboard cutouts to paint leopard spots while learning how patterns help animals camouflage. They were also introduced to words like léopard and Afrique, blending art, science, and language.
Specialist Teachers

Savannah Explorers, Culture & City Adventures
This week, we continued our journey through Africa, continuing with focus specifically on the savannah habitat. The children have been captivated by the unique landscape of the grasslands and the incredible animals that call it home.
Modern Languages and Communication
This week’s jungle-themed song invited children to pretend they were scrubbing clothes and washing animals with bubbly water. The playful routine introduced new vocabulary and encouraged expressive language through sensory exploration and role play.
Regional Education: African Habitats
This week, we continued our African journey by exploring the savannah habitat. Children learned about the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros, and leopard – using storybooks, visuals, and activity tables. They practiced describing features like size, movement, and diet through crafts, dramatic games, and face painting.
We took a closer look at leopards, discovering how they camouflage, hunt, and rest in trees. Children were fascinated by their solitary nature and explored how leopard prints are used in traditional African clothing as symbols of strength and beauty.
Amazing Excursions
Theatre Trip – “The Tiger Who Came to Tea”. Preschoolers visited the Royal Haymarket Theatre for a live show. They enjoyed singing, dancing, and joining in the story, which focused on kindness and imagination. On the way, they spotted city landmarks from the double-decker bus, turning the journey into a learning experience of its own.
STEAM
Children continued their exploration of traditional African mud houses by building with clay and straws. They also matched animals to their habitats and practiced counting, combining culture with math and fine motor skill development.
Specialist Teachers
In Miss Molly sessions children created mandalas using natural materials like petals and feathers. They also made a group body mandala, practicing coordination and gratitude through calm movement and shared affirmations.
In Sporty Minis, preschoolers practiced teamwork through obstacle races, egg-and-spoon balancing, and rugby kicks. These sessions continue to build coordination, confidence, and team spirit ahead of next week’s big Sports Day!
Supporting a Cause Close to Our Hearts
Hatching Dragons is proud to support our founder Cenn John, running the Cardiff Marathon this October to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Inspired by the loss of a sibling to congenital heart disease and Down’s syndrome, this fundraiser aims to help children facing life-threatening illnesses.
We would love for our Hatching Dragons community to join us in supporting this cause. Every donation, no matter how small, can help change a child's future.
In case you missed our update last week regarding important changes—including the new fee structure starting 1st September 2025—we kindly ask you to review the details.
