Theme of the Week: Exploring Weather, Seasons, and Sensory Play
This week at Canada Water, our little dragons immersed themselves in a series of creative, sensory, and educational experiences. From exploring Mandarin vocabulary through hands-on science to learning about North America’s diverse climates, every activity encouraged curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning.

Modern Languages and Communication
Our children learned about rain and clouds in Mandarin with their language teacher. Using shaving foam and blue water, they created their own “rain clouds” in a sensory tray—watching water droplets fall through the foam while practicing new words like xià yǔ (rain) and yún (cloud). This fun, hands-on approach made language learning come alive through touch, sight, and sound.
STEAM Exploration
The children discovered the magic of transformation by making their own playdough! They mixed flour, salt, and water to observe how ingredients change when combined, introducing them to early science concepts. This activity strengthened fine motor skills and gave our little scientists a sensory-rich, hands-on experience of creation.
Cooking Club
Our regional focus on North America continued with a fun, hands-on nature project! The babies went on a little garden foraging adventure, collecting leaves, twigs, and small stones to build their own “habitat bins.” Together, we talked about how animals like squirrels, bears, and deer use these natural materials to build their homes. This engaging activity helped the children explore early science concepts — habitats, nature, and wildlife — in a playful and memorable way.
Regional Education: Discovering North America
Our regional focus this week was North America. The children decorated maple leaves to represent Canada and explored sensory trays filled with fake snow and arctic animals. These activities sparked their curiosity about world regions while enhancing creativity and tactile exploration.
Specialist Teachers
Miss Molly led an energetic and festive circle time filled with music, movement, and sensory fun. The children danced with a parachute filled with colourful autumn leaves and wore witches’ hats to celebrate the Halloween season. Her sessions beautifully combine rhythm, sensory play, and mindfulness—nurturing joy and self-expression in every child.

Theme of the Week: Creativity, Culture, and Hands-On Learning!
This week at Hatching Dragons Canada Water, our preschoolers and babies explored language, culture, and creativity through a variety of sensory, artistic, and physical activities. From exploring Mandarin and North American culture to celebrating Black History Month and World Food Day, it’s been a joyful and enriching week of learning through play.

Modern Languages & Communication
Monster Making (Preschool)
Our preschoolers extended their Mandarin learning this week by exploring colours through creative monster-making! Using colourful clay, they sculpted their own friendly monsters, adding eyes, teeth, and legs. Through this fun, hands-on craft, the children deepened their understanding of Mandarin colour words while strengthening fine motor skills and imagination.
Regional Education: Exploring North America
The children explored the culture and geography of North America through art and sensory play. They decorated bright red maple leaves inspired by Canada’s national symbol and explored the Arctic through play trays filled with pretend snow and animal figures. Preschoolers also had a creative cooking experience, making pretend American pumpkin pies using circle cutters and wooden spoons—an imaginative way to learn about traditional foods while practicing teamwork and coordination.
STEAM Learning
Traffic Light Creations
In celebration of Black History Month, the preschoolers learned about Garrett Morgan — the African-American inventor of the traffic light. To bring this learning to life, they created their own traffic light crafts using red, yellow, and green paper circles. As they glued each piece into place, they learned what each colour represents and discussed how inventions help keep people safe. This activity supported fine motor skills, colour recognition, and historical awareness.
Festival Focus: World Food Day
In honour of World Food Day, children took part in a hands-on cooking experience by chopping soft, boiled vegetables like carrots, parsnips, and cucumbers using child-safe knives. This activity encouraged independence, coordination, and an understanding of healthy eating. The children proudly created a simple vegetable dish, celebrating nutritious foods and the joy of cooking together.
Cooking Club: Fruit Fun!
In the baby room, the children had fun exploring different fruits—cutting apples, bananas, and pears with support from staff. This activity helped them develop fine motor control while exploring textures, colours, and tastes. It was a fun and interactive way to promote healthy eating habits and independence.
Specialist Teachers
Yoga & Mindfulness with Miss Molly
Miss Molly led a calm and engaging yoga session focused on balance, body awareness, and coordination. Through storytelling and songs about the change of seasons, she guided the children in gentle movements and breathing exercises surrounded by autumn leaves. It was a peaceful and joyful session encouraging mindfulness and focus.
Sports with Coach Terry
Coach Terry brought energy and excitement with fun group games like What’s the Time, Mr. Wolf? and Traffic Light Driving. The children practiced balance, coordination, and turn-taking through hopping, running, and ball activities. These sessions are a wonderful way to build teamwork, confidence, and physical development through play.
The children’s enthusiasm shines through every activity, and we can’t wait to see what adventures await us next week!
