Theme of the Week: Autumn Sunshine & Seasonal Discovery!

This week in the Baby Room, our little learners explored autumn through colours, textures, and language. From painting sunny skies in Mandarin to creating autumn leaves and discovering animal habitats, every experience encouraged creativity, curiosity, and communication. The week ended with a joyful circle time led by Miss Molly, filled with music, movement, and festive fun!

Communication & Language

Our Mandarin focus this week was on weather — specifically, the word for sunshine, yángguāng (阳光). The children took part in a bright and cheerful art activity where they painted golden suns using yellow paints while saying the new word aloud. This multisensory approach helped them connect language to action, sound, and creativity, deepening their understanding through play and expression.

STEM

In our STEAM activity, the babies welcomed the beauty of autumn through an art project celebrating the season’s colours. They painted and decorated paper leaves in warm tones of brown, orange, and gold, exploring colour mixing and texture. Afterwards, they practised their fine motor skills by carefully cutting and placing the leaves on our classroom tree. This sensory experience helped them understand seasonal changes while nurturing creativity and coordination.

Regional Education

Our regional focus on North America continued with a fun, hands-on nature project! The babies went on a little garden foraging adventure, collecting leaves, twigs, and small stones to build their own “habitat bins.” Together, we talked about how animals like squirrels, bears, and deer use these natural materials to build their homes. This engaging activity helped the children explore early science concepts — habitats, nature, and wildlife — in a playful and memorable way.

Specialist Teachers

This week, Miss Molly led a wonderful sensory circle time celebrating the autumn season. The children joyfully waved the parachute filled with colourful autumn leaves, giggling as they floated through the air. Adding a festive touch, everyone wore witches’ hats and sang cheerful Halloween songs. Through movement, rhythm, and sensory play, Miss Molly helped the children develop coordination and confidence — while having lots of fun!

Thank you to all our families for another wonderful week of play, discovery, and growth. We are so proud of how curious and engaged the babies have been, and we look forward to more exciting adventures next week!

Modern Languages & Communication

Our preschoolers extended their Mandarin learning by recognising and naming colours while painting pumpkins! Through this fun art activity, they explored colour mixing and learned Mandarin vocabulary in a creative, interactive way. It was wonderful to see how confident and expressive they became while communicating through art and language.

Regional Education

This week, the children discovered the fascinating world of mushrooms. They learned that mushrooms are a type of fungi that come in many shapes, sizes, and colours. Using paper plates and red tissue paper, they created beautiful mushroom crafts that connected art to nature. The activity encouraged curiosity, fine motor development, and observation skills.

Outdoor Learning: Plant Kitchen Fun

During garden time, our little explorers enjoyed imaginative play in the mud kitchen! Using pots, pans, and natural ingredients like leaves, mud, and water, they created “mud pies” and “leaf soup.” This sensory play inspired teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity while strengthening their fine motor skills and love for outdoor learning.

STEM

In this week’s STEAM activity, the children practiced their cutting skills by creating patterns with scissors and coloured paper. They followed pre-drawn shapes and even invented their own designs — some noticed symmetry, while others created pattern chains. This hands-on exercise supported early maths, design thinking, and fine motor coordination.

Specialist Teachers

On Wednesday, Miss Molly led a calming yoga session inspired by the change of seasons. Through storytelling, she introduced poses that represented autumn leaves and weather changes. The session promoted balance, coordination, and mindfulness, allowing the children to relax and connect with their bodies in a peaceful, imaginative way.

The children’s enthusiasm shines through every activity, and we can’t wait to see what adventures await us next week!
