Babyroom Newsletter: What We Got Up to This Week!

Modern Communication and Language: Learning About the Family

This week at our nursery, the children had a wonderful time learning about family members in French. Using colourful puppets, they practiced naming and describing different family members, making the activity both fun and educational. They even created their own family trees, adding pictures of their loved ones to help them recognise and talk confidently about their families.

This engaging activity not only supported their language development but also encouraged them to share about their personal backgrounds in a friendly and supportive environment. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and growing understanding of family relationships! If you'd like to explore more of our enriching activities, why not book a tour of our Canada Water nursery to see the magic in action?

STEAM: Russian Doll Painting

Our nursery’s STEAM activities were full of creativity this week as the children explored the art of Russian doll painting. Using paints, they created their own beautiful Russian dolls on paper, experimenting with different colours and patterns. This hands-on activity allowed them to express their creativity while learning about traditional Russian culture.

It was delightful to see their enthusiasm and pride in their artwork—and the fun they had experimenting with so many bright colours! For parents looking for a summer adventure full of multicultural learning, take a look at our holiday childcare at Canada Water.

Regional Education: Fabrics and Patterns of Russia

Continuing our journey through Russian culture, the children explored traditional Russian dresses in a fun and creative project. They examined picture references to observe the intricate patterns and vibrant designs typical of Russian clothing. Using glue, they stuck colourful patterns onto their paper to craft their own versions of traditional dresses.

This activity not only introduced them to Russian culture but also helped enhance their fine motor skills and understanding of patterns. It was inspiring to see their imagination come to life as they personalised their designs—and they thoroughly enjoyed learning about this beautiful cultural tradition!

Specialist Teachers

Molly’s Mindful Movement
This week, Molly's Mindful Movement session kicked off an exciting new topic all about the sea. The children started by singing fun songs like “A Puffery Fish” and “Once I Caught a Fish Alive,” which got everyone moving and singing together. They swayed their ribbons to mimic green seaweed, adding a calming, imaginative touch to the experience.

With shakers in hand, the children added rhythm to the songs, enhancing their coordination and musical awareness. To promote mindful listening, they gazed up at the stars on the ceiling, fostering a sense of calm and wonder. The session wrapped up with a joyful rainbow parachute activity, complemented by sensory lights that created a magical underwater atmosphere. It was a wonderful way to introduce the ocean theme while encouraging mindfulness, movement, and sensory exploration!

Sporty Minis
At our Sporty Minis session, the children had a fantastic time running between cones to boost their agility. They practiced different stretches to stay flexible and used colourful ribbons to add a splash of excitement to their movements. We also introduced some relaxing yoga poses to help them unwind and improve their balance.

It was a lively and engaging way for the kids to stay active, have fun, and learn healthy habits that will stay with them for life!

Preschool Newsletter: Deep Dive into the Ocean

This week, our preschoolers embarked on an exciting underwater adventure, diving into the fascinating world of the oceans. Through hands-on projects, they explored the five oceans of the world, each one uniquely brought to life through a creative process art activity. Using various colours and textures of paint, the children created stunning collages that represented the deep blue ocean and its vibrant marine life.

As they worked, the children were introduced to a range of sea creatures and discussed their diverse ecosystems. An important part of this exploration was learning why protecting our oceans matters. They discovered simple, everyday actions—like putting rubbish in the bin and recycling—that can help preserve marine life. The book Dear Earth captured their imaginations, sparking conversations about the beauty of nature and the role each of us plays in protecting it.

At Hatching Dragons, our approach to early education is rooted in nurturing curiosity and cultural understanding. Our Education framework is designed to spark these kinds of meaningful learning experiences every day.

STEAM Adventures

In our STEAM activities, the children took a fascinating journey to the colourful city of Riga in Latvia. Using building blocks, they carefully measured the heights of buildings, comparing sizes and practicing counting skills. This hands-on approach transformed abstract concepts into something tangible and fun, helping the children develop both creativity and a sense of accomplishment.

Nesting Dolls in Slavic Culture

Our preschoolers also delved into the rich cultural traditions of Slavic art, focusing on the iconic nesting dolls. With play-dough cutters and paints in hand, they designed their very own nesting dolls, experimenting with different patterns and colours.

Once their creations were complete, the children carefully arranged the dolls from largest to smallest, exploring size, sequence, and the beauty of symmetry. This engaging project not only introduced them to cultural art but also developed fine motor skills and cognitive abilities—just one example of how our programs bring learning to life.

Specialist Teachers' Sessions

Miss Molly: Yoga and Emotional Well-being
In yoga this week, Miss Molly guided the preschoolers through a sensory-rich experience. The children dipped their hands into a bowl of orbeez, describing textures and sensations that enhanced their focus on the sense of touch. The session’s theme was emotional regulation, with children learning techniques to manage negative feelings through mindful breathing—like placing boats on their chests to calm their nervous systems. These sessions combine physical movement with mental and emotional growth, giving our little ones vital skills for self-regulation.

Sportyminis with Coach Terry

Physical fun was in full swing during Sportyminis, where Coach Terry had the children jumping, running, and laughing through indoor activities. Games like Shark Attack challenged their agility, while animal walks—like the graceful slither of a snake or the stomp of an elephant—kept them engaged. Hoops and beanbags added a playful element, improving balance and coordination. Sessions like these show that fitness can be just as fun as it is rewarding!

Hannah Sparkles

Hannah Sparkles brought the magic of music and rhythm to the classroom, inspiring children to explore different speeds and volumes using shakers and other instruments. Singing nursery rhymes with physical gestures and dancing to the beat filled the room with joy. Experimenting with vocal impressions—like mimicking animals or weather sounds—encouraged self-expression and built confidence, all while nurturing a sense of community.

Amazing Excursion to Tian Tian Market for Dragon Boat Festival 🐲✨

This week, our preschoolers celebrated the Dragon Boat Festival with a cultural excursion to Tian Tian Market. The children’s eyes lit up as they explored the aisles, selecting traditional ingredients and festive goodies to bring back to nursery. This hands-on learning experience encouraged cultural awareness, teamwork, and independence—key elements of our commitment to holistic, values-based education.

We also understand that supporting working parents is essential. That’s why we offer a Workplace Nursery Scheme to help families balance work and high-quality early education.
