My child has special educational needs and/or disability (SEND)
We recognise how important early identification and intervention are. Our educators play a key role in closely observing each child’s development and identifying when additional support may be needed. By recognising needs early, we can put the right support in place to help every child reach their full potential.
Each of our nurseries has a dedicated SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) who leads on providing tailored support for children with developmental differences. We work closely with parents/carers, as well as any specialists involved, to ensure each child’s individual needs are met.All of our practitioners receive regular training in supporting children with additional needs.Find out more about how Hatching Dragons supports children with additional needs here: https://www.hatching-dragons.com/en/send-provision-and-support-mapping
How do I go about securing a place for my child at nursery?
We recommend booking a personal tour of any nurseries you are considering if you haven’t already. A visit gives you the chance to meet our team, discuss your requirements in person, and get a real sense of what we can offer your family. During your tour, the Nursery Manager will also be able to advise on availability and guide you through the registration process.
Our nurseries can fill up quickly, particularly with the expansion of funding for younger children, so we encourage you to secure your place as early as possible to avoid disappointment. If you are expecting a baby or planning a move, it’s a good idea to start exploring options sooner rather than later. As we grow, you may have two or more Hatching Dragons nurseries nearby, so consider visiting all local settings, especially if your preferred nursery currently has a waitlist.
Accepting an offer and settling-in
The team at your chosen nursery will work with you to create a settling-in plan tailored to your child. A key part of this process is building a relationship with your child’s Key Person. Before your official start date, your child will be invited to attend the nursery for short visits, helping them become familiar with the environment and routines. During this time, the Key Person will get to know your child’s individual needs, preferences, and any medical or dietary requirements.
Your child’s Key Person will be your main point of contact once they start nursery and will keep you updated on their progress. After each settling-in session, you’ll receive feedback on what your child has enjoyed, the activities they’ve taken part in, and how they are adjusting. These updates will be shared with you through the Hatching Dragons eyParent App.View more about settling into the Hatching Dragons family here: https://www.hatching-dragons.com/en/settling-in
Can I put my child on a waiting list before they are born?
Yes, some parents choose to secure a place before birth. While it’s not necessary, doing so can help reduce anxiety about availability, especially as our nurseries can fill up quickly. We’ll keep you updated on availability as your child’s start date approaches.
Do you offer flexible or term-time-only care?
We don’t offer term-time-only care, as our nursery operates all year round; but we do provide flexibility within our weekly schedules. Children aren’t required to attend full-time (five days a week), so you can choose the number of days that works best for your family.
Nursery Opening Hours
Opening and closing times vary by nursery. You can check the nursery’s webpage or ask the Nursery Manager at your chosen setting for specific operating hours. Please note that all nurseries close during the Christmas to New Year period, on Bank/Public Holidays, and on INSET days.
Why are tours important?
Our personal tours are designed to give you a real sense of the nursery and the chance to meet our team. During your visit, staff will be available to answer your questions and talk through your child’s individual care needs. We want both you and your child to feel comfortable and confident from the very beginning.
Fees & Finance
Do I have to pay a registration fee?
Yes, we do ask for a non-refundable registration fee when you complete and return the registration forms. This helps us cover the administration involved in either:
(a) reserving a place for your child (where available), or
(b) adding your child to our waiting list if a place isn't immediately open.
We always want to be transparent, so please be aware that paying the registration fee and joining the waiting list does not guarantee a place or your preferred attendance pattern. However, we will support you throughout the process and keep you updated as availability changes.
There is no registration fee for fully funded places.
Do you charge fees if my child is ill or holiday?
Yes, our usual fees still apply if your child is unwell or away on holiday. This is because your child's place is reserved for them during that time, and our staffing and operating costs remain the same.
Do you charge fees on Bank Holidays?
Yes, fees remain the same during public holidays and other planned nursery closure days. This is because we continue to reserve your child's place and maintain staffing and operational commitments during these times.
Can we pay for childcare by the hour?
We don't offer childcare on an hourly basis. We recommend a minimum attendance of two full days per week, as this routine helps children feel secure, build friendships, and develop strong relationships with the adults caring for them.
If you'd like to talk through what would work best for your family, please get in touch with your local Nursery Manager — we're here to help.

A day in the life
What do I do if I'm concerned that my child hasn't settled in?
If you ever have a concern, please start by speaking with your child's Key Person or the Nursery Manager — we're always here to listen and help. If you feel that your concern hasn't been fully resolved, you can contact our Complaints Team at complaints@hatching-dragons.com, or you may choose to make a formal complaint directly to Ofsted. We are committed to working with you to find a positive resolution.
What does my child need to wear and bring for nursery?
We ask parents to provide at least two spare sets of clothes for their child each day. During colder months, please also include a warm coat, gloves, and a hat.
If your child is taking part in an outing, they may need additional items such as waterproofs, wellies, or a sun hat, depending on the weather. The nursery team will always let you know in advance and keep you informed of anything your child might need.
How will I know and find out how my child is getting on during the day?
Your child's Key Person will regularly observe and record their learning and development, helping us understand how they are progressing and what support they may need next. You're always welcome to discuss these observations directly with your Key Person, and they will also be available for you to view through the Bright Horizons Family App.

My child has a set routine, how will this fit into nursery life
We work closely with families and aim to reflect your home routines as much as possible within the nursery. This helps your child feel secure and supports a smooth transition between home and nursery life.
Read more about smoothing transitions and adapting to new routines here: https://www.hatching-dragons.com/en/settling-in
My child is starting potty training. Can you help with this?
Certainly — we will work closely with you to follow your home routines and support your child's toilet training in a calm and consistent way. Our team are here to guide and encourage you throughout the process.
Are nappies and formula included?
No, nappies and formula are not provided, as every child has their own preferences and routines. We do, however, provide wipes to support your child's care during the day.
Can I swap days or make up missed sessions?
Days not attended are still charged, as operational costs and staffing are scheduled based on your child's booked days. Unfortunately, we aren't able to swap or make up missed sessions, but we always work with families to plan the schedule that best suits their needs.
Safety
Do your nurseries have CCTV?
We use CCTV at our nursery entrances to help ensure the safety and security of our children, families, staff, and nursery premises. For privacy and safeguarding reasons, this footage cannot be viewed remotely.
What happens if my child is ill at nursery or needs medicine?
Before we are able to administer any medication, we will ask you to complete the necessary consent forms. Whether a child can attend nursery while taking medication will be assessed on an individual basis. All medication given while your child is at nursery is carefully recorded, and we will ask you to sign to confirm you have been informed.
Please note: Children should not attend nursery if they are experiencing sickness, diarrhoea, an infectious illness, or an unexplained rash. They will need to be symptom-free or cleared to return by a doctor before coming back.
If your child becomes unwell or is injured while at nursery, we may provide first aid, seek medical attention if necessary, or ask that your child be collected early. If we are unable to reach you, we will contact the next authorised person listed on your child's records.
Updates on your child's nursery day
Our Hatching Dragons eyParent App helps you stay connected with your child's nursery day through real-time updates. It offers reassurance that your child is safe, happy, and engaged, and makes communication between families and nursery staff simple and seamless.

How do I know your staff are properly trained?
At Hatching Dragons, your child's safety, happiness, and development are at the heart of everything we do. We invest in our teams so they are confident, skilled and deeply nurturing in their care. Here's how we ensure your child is supported every day:
Safety First
All staff undergo enhanced DBS checks when they join us, which are renewed every three years. Every colleague is also trained in Paediatric First Aid, so you can feel confident that your child is always in safe hands.
Nurturing and Knowledgeable Educators
We believe in lifelong learning. Our teams take part in ongoing professional development to stay up-to-date with the latest Early Years research, child development approaches, and best practice.
Strong and Supportive Leadership
Our room leaders and managers take part in dedicated leadership training to help them guide and support their teams, ensuring consistent, high-quality care throughout the nursery.
Growing Talent and Expertise
From apprenticeships to Early Years teaching qualifications, we actively support our staff to develop their skills and grow in their careers—so your child benefits from knowledgeable, passionate practitioners.
Committed to Excellence
We understand that choosing a nursery is a big decision. That's why we are committed to providing a safe, welcoming and enriching environment where your child can learn, play and thrive.
Can I opt my child out of any social media images?
Of course. When you join the nursery, you'll have the option to give consent for your child to appear on our social media or other communication platforms. This is entirely your choice. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further at any point, please speak with your Nursery Manager, we're always happy to help.
Can someone else drop off or collect my child?
Yes, but only if they are pre-authorised. You must add them to your collection list and notify the staff in advance. We also need a password they will use for collection.
Food
My child has allergies. Will they be safe at nursery?
Before your child starts nursery, we'll ask you to share any allergy information and how you manage this at home. This helps us make sure that everyone caring for your child understands their needs. We will review this information regularly to ensure it remains accurate and up to date.
We take a number of steps to keep children with allergies safe:
Allergy information is clearly displayed in your child's room, along with their photo, so the whole team is aware.
The same information is shared with our kitchen team so that individual meals can be prepared safely when needed.
Meal bowls and plates are labelled to show when a dish differs from the main meal being served.
Individual place settings, with each child's photo and allergen details, are used at every snack and mealtime.
Our chefs maintain detailed allergen records for all food products used.
We do require written confirmation of any allergies or intolerances from a medical professional or health visitor before your child starts. This ensures we have the correct information to put the right safety measures in place.
You can read more about our approach to food safety and inclusivity here: https://www.hatching-dragons.com/en/policy-allergies-allergic-reactions
How do you cater for different dietary preferences on your menus?
We work closely with families to understand and respect any religious, cultural, or dietary needs. Where required, we will adapt meals accordingly. For example, if a child does not eat beef, they will be offered an alternative, such as a different meat dish, a vegetarian or vegan option.
All of our nurseries are able to cater to halal, vegetarian and vegan diets, as well as food allergies and intolerances. All of our nurseries are also egg, nut and pork free spaces.
Please speak with your local nursery to discuss your child's specific dietary requirements, we're always happy to work with you to make sure they are well supported.
What meals are included in the nursery day?
At all Hatching Dragons nurseries, we provide breakfast, lunch, tea, and both mid-morning and afternoon snacks.
All of our meals are freshly prepared on-site each day by our trained chefs and kitchen teams. Breakfast may include options such as cereals, porridge, and fresh fruit. Lunch and tea are served as two-course meals in a relaxed, family-style setting, where children enjoy sharing food and eating together. Fresh drinking water is available throughout the day.
We also support children in learning about food in meaningful and engaging ways. Children are encouraged to explore new flavours, learn what ingredients are in the meals they are eating, and develop independence at mealtimes — such as pouring drinks, serving themselves, and using cutlery with confidence.
To enrich their cultural understanding, we also link some of our meals to the cultural themes and celebrations happening in the nursery, introducing children to a wider range of tastes and traditions from around the world.
We follow a carefully designed 15-day menu cycle, planned in line with Eat Better, Start Better, Setting the Table, and First Steps Nutrition Trust guidance. This ensures meals are balanced for nutrition, portion size, and appropriate salt and sugar levels.
Our menus help ensure every child receives the nutrients and energy they need to grow, learn, play and thrive — while developing a positive, confident relationship with food along the way.
What if my child is a picky eater?
We completely understand that some children can be particular about food, whether it's the colour, the texture, or simply because it's touching something else on the plate! Trying new foods is a journey, and we support children at their own pace.
We gently encourage children to explore new flavours in a relaxed, positive environment. But if your child isn't ready to try the meal provided (or has tried and decided it's a firm “no thank you”), we will offer an alternative, such as a simple sandwich. This ensures they leave the table with a full tummy and a happy heart, never hungry or pressured.
