Theme of the Week: Colours, Creativity, and Autumn Discoveries

This week in the Baby Room, our little explorers had a wonderful time learning through play, music, and movement. From splashes of colour in French and Mandarin to hands-on STEAM activities and energetic sessions with our specialist teachers, the children have been busy developing new skills while having lots of fun together.

Curious about how we help our youngest learners thrive through play and care?

Communication & Language

French – The children enjoyed a colourful matching game, sorting little fish into red, blue, and yellow buckets. Along the way, they learned the French words for each colour — rouge, bleu, and jaune — building both language and colour recognition skills.
Mandarin – Autumn came to life as we explored the colours yellow (黄色), orange (橙色), green (绿色), and red (红色). The children sang the Mandarin song Falling Leaves (落叶飞) and decorated their woodland scene with leaves, mushrooms, pinecones, and squirrels, combining creativity with language learning.

STEM

In this hands-on STEAM activity, the children practised fine motor skills by scrubbing, squeezing, and wiping baby dolls clean. They explored early science concepts such as cause and effect while also developing problem-solving and nurturing skills through play.

Regional Education

As part of our Middle East theme, the children created textured camel artwork by gluing pieces of yellow paper onto camel outlines. This fun project built fine motor skills and introduced them to an iconic animal of the region, encouraging creativity and cultural awareness.

Feeding the Birds at the Pond

This week, the babies enjoyed a lovely outing to Lavender Pond. The children had a wonderful time running around on the soft grass, exploring the open space, and feeding the birds. There were plenty of smiles and giggles as the birds came closer for a treat. It was a peaceful, playful day spent in nature.

Specialist Teachers

Miss Molly – The children danced with scarves to Mr. Golden Sun, popped bubbles to the Bubble Pop Song, and sang Incy Wincy Spider. The session ended with a calming light display, balancing high energy with peaceful relaxation. Sporty Minis – From gentle stretching to kangaroo hopping and crab walking, the children had a fantastic time moving like animals! They also practised running and ball games to build balance, coordination, and teamwork—all while enjoying playful, imaginative movement.

Thank you to all our families for another wonderful week of play, discovery, and growth. We are so proud of how curious and engaged the babies have been, and we look forward to more exciting adventures next week!

Theme of the Week: Autumn Celebrations & Creative Learning

This week in Preschool, our little learners explored autumn through art and harvest crafts, celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with storytelling and painting, and learned Mandarin in fun, creative ways. From transportation sorting to STEAM pattern-making with natural treasures, the children practiced early thinking, creativity, and collaboration. Specialist sessions with Miss Molly, Coach Terry, and Hally Sparkles added movement, music, and mindfulness to a week filled with excitement and discovery.

Modern Languages & Communication

The children extended their Mandarin learning by exploring colours through finger painting and dotting activities. As they painted, they counted each dot, combining language, colour recognition, and early numeracy. This activity made Mandarin fun, creative, and hands-on, while also building communication and confidence.

Regional Education

Our preschoolers became transportation experts as they sorted vehicles into groups: road, sky, water, and tracks. Using picture cards, they identified fire trucks, trains, boats, airplanes, and even hot air balloons. There were thoughtful discussions when some vehicles could fit more than one category, encouraging teamwork, problem-solving, and vocabulary building.

Autumn Harvest

To celebrate the season, the children created their own autumn harvest baskets filled with colourful fruits and vegetables like apples, pumpkins, and pears. They discussed how these foods grow and why they’re special in autumn. This activity encouraged fine motor skills, creativity, and conversation, as the children shared their favourite foods and autumn stories with peers.

International Festival

The preschoolers celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival through storytelling and a special Moon Rabbit art project. After learning the legend, children painted rabbit outlines using cotton balls and soft autumn colours like yellow, red, and orange. This activity connected cultural storytelling with art, imagination, and creativity.

STEM

Children explored nature’s treasures—pinecones, twigs, and stones—to create and trace unique patterns. They discovered shapes, sizes, and textures while discussing how patterns appear in the natural world. This activity encouraged observation, creativity, and early math thinking as children identified sequences and symmetrical designs.

Specialist Teachers

This week, our specialist sessions brought movement, mindfulness, and creativity into the classroom. With Miss Molly, the children enjoyed calming yet playful yoga sessions, practicing balance, coordination, and focus through animal-inspired poses and a fun guessing game. In Sporty Minis with Coach Terry, they built physical skills like agility, coordination, and spatial awareness while exploring ball games and challenges that encouraged teamwork and perseverance. To finish the week, the children sang, danced, and expressed themselves through rhythm with Hally Sparkles, who led energetic music sessions that inspired confidence, self-expression, and joy.

The children’s enthusiasm shines through every activity, and we can’t wait to see what adventures await us next week!
