This week in our Baby Dragons room, we embraced the beauty of autumn and the joy of cultural celebrations! From exploring the Chinese solar term Frost’s Descent (霜降 Shuāngjiàng) to celebrating Diwali with colourful art and music, our babies engaged in activities that sparked curiosity, creativity, and communication. Through art, music, and sensory play, the children explored textures, colours, and sounds while learning about the changing seasons and global traditions.
Curious about how we help our youngest learners thrive through play and care?
Our little explorers celebrated Frost’s Descent, one of the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms marking the end of autumn. During our Autumn Leaf Sticking activity, the children chose colourful leaves and sprinkled salt “frost” over them to create sparkling artwork.
As we created, we learned and reviewed Mandarin words for colours, as well as new words such as “cold” (冷 lěng) and “leaf” (叶子 yèzi). This activity beautifully blended sensory play, language development, and cultural learning — a frosty and fun way to welcome the season!
To celebrate Diwali, we brought science and art together in our Firework Painting activity! Using recycled cardboard rolls shaped like fireworks, the children dipped them into colourful paints and stamped vibrant bursts across the paper.
This creative experiment introduced the science of colour mixing while strengthening fine motor skills and artistic expression. As we painted, we talked about how fireworks light up the sky during Diwali — making this a joyful, sparkly, and meaningful sensory experience!
Our babies explored the stunning art of Rangoli, a colourful Diwali tradition. Using couscous, glitter, and ribbons, they created beautiful textured designs, experimenting with patterns and colours.
This hands-on sensory activity encouraged creativity, fine motor development, and cultural awareness as the children learned about Diwali’s message of light and joy. The room was full of sparkle and smiles as we celebrated this bright and festive occasion together!
This week’s Regional Focus took us to snowy North America, where the children created painted igloos using LEGO blocks! With white paint for snow and blue paper for the sky, the babies explored textures, shapes, and colour contrasts.
This fun stamping activity supported Physical Development and creativity, while introducing the idea of icy habitats and the cold weather in northern regions — a wonderful, wintry sensory adventure!
Miss Molly filled our week with magic and movement! The babies played with a parachute full of autumn leaves, sang seasonal songs, and wore witches’ hats to celebrate Halloween. The session ended with soothing sensory lights, helping everyone unwind after the excitement — a perfect balance of fun, learning, and calm.
In Sporty Minis, our babies had a fantastic time moving, jumping, and stretching! They rolled colourful balls, tossed hoops through witches’ hat cones, and played an animal movement game — hopping like frogs, slithering like snakes, and waddling like penguins!
These lively sessions supported balance, coordination, and gross motor development — with a joyful Halloween twist that kept everyone smiling from start to finish.
A big thank you to our Baby Dragons families for sharing in the joy of learning and celebration with us. It’s been a week full of sparkle, movement, and discovery
This week in our Preschool Room was a celebration of language, culture, and creativity! From exploring Mandarin through nature to celebrating Diwali and discovering the wonders of Canada and Niagara Falls, our children engaged in exciting, hands-on learning experiences that combined art, science, and global awareness.
Looking for a preschool that blends learning with global culture and creative play?
Our preschoolers extended their Mandarin learning by exploring colours through the beauty of nature. The children collected autumn leaves and transformed them into Frosted Leaf Collages, using glue and white powder to create a magical, wintry effect.
As they crafted, they learned Mandarin colour words — such as hóng sè (red), lǜ sè (green), and huáng sè (yellow) — weaving language into play. This creative sensory experience made communication learning tangible, artistic, and fun!
Our journey across North America continued with a special focus on Canada! Using maps and picture flashcards, the children identified the four main regions: Canada, Mexico, the United States, and Greenland.
They then created their own Canadian flags, stamping red maple leaves with paint onto paper to represent the country’s iconic symbol. Through this artistic exploration, the children learned about the symbolism of the maple leaf and Canada’s national colours — red and white — while strengthening fine motor and cultural understanding.
This week, we celebrated Diwali, a festival symbolising light, joy, and togetherness.
In our Rangoli art activity, children explored colourful mandala patterns using tissue paper and a sensory tuff tray, arranging shapes into bright, symmetrical designs. During music time, we looked at photos of Diwali celebrations, learned a joyful song, and played musical instruments to the rhythm — filling the classroom with sound, colour, and movement.
To extend the theme, the children created firework collages using paint, glitter, and stamp cutouts, turning their paper into dazzling night skies. These experiences helped the children connect creativity with cultural understanding in a truly memorable way.
Our young scientists explored the incredible Niagara Falls through a water-based sensory experiment! Using pipettes, they observed how water flows, drips, and splashes — just like a real waterfall. This activity nurtured scientific curiosity, observation skills, and fine motor control, all while sparking wonder about the natural world.
In another STEAM-inspired project, preschoolers became designers and engineers, constructing their own double-decker buses using pre-cut shapes. They glued on windows, doors, and wheels, discussing how buses help people travel around cities. This creative construction activity supported design thinking, problem-solving, and an appreciation for community helpers.
On Wednesday, Miss Molly guided the children through a calm and reflective yoga session inspired by Diwali’s themes of light and mindfulness. The class practiced balance and body awareness before creating floral mandalas and sharing what they were thankful for — promoting both emotional wellbeing and cultural appreciation.
Thursday’s session brought plenty of energy as Coach Terry introduced new movement games to build speed, balance, and coordination. The children practiced bouncing and aiming with basketballs, developing teamwork and motor skills through play. Their enthusiasm and focus made for an exciting end to the week!
