This week in Baby Room, our little learners explored new words in Mandarin, discovered vibrant cultures through art and flags, and celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with creativity and joy. With plenty of singing, sensory fun, and hands-on learning, it was a colourful week of exploration and discovery.
Curious about how we help our youngest learners thrive through play and care?
The children had a wonderful time expanding their vocabulary as we learned the names of fruits in Mandarin. Using real fruit, picture cards, and songs, we practised words like píngguǒ (apple), xiāngjiāo (banana), and júzi (orange).
To build on this, we matched fruits with their colours using crayons. The children loved colouring their fruits and proudly naming them in both English and Mandarin. This activity supported early speech, boosted confidence, and encouraged peer-to-peer communication.
Our little artists explored mosaic tile painting by creating colourful patterns on large sheets of paper. They carefully selected colours, experimented with shapes, and worked together to design beautiful mosaics.
This creative activity blended art with problem-solving, teamwork, and fine motor practice. The results were unique, bright, and filled the children with pride as they admired their collaborative masterpiece.
This week, we took a colourful journey through the flags of the Middle East. Using crayons and paper, the children recreated flags from countries such as Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the UAE.
As they carefully coloured, the children noticed the unique shapes, patterns, and colours of each flag. Educators shared the meanings behind the colours, sparking curiosity about different cultures. This hands-on project supported fine motor skills, cultural awareness, and early geography learning.
To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, our Baby Room was filled with art, cooking, and sensory play! The children decorated Chinese fans, using bright colours and stickers to make stunning designs.
They also became little chefs, shaping playdough mooncakes with traditional moulds — a sensory-rich way to practise fine motor skills. Finally, they enjoyed water play with traditional ladles, exploring floating and scooping while playing cooperatively with friends.
This week’s Miss Molly session was full of music and laughter! The children danced to Mr Golden Sun, waving colourful fabrics in the air. They had fun popping bubbles, sang Incy Wincy Spider with actions, and joined in with a puppet storytelling session.
We ended the session with calming sensory lights and shakers, creating a magical moment to relax after all the excitement.
It’s been a week full of colour, creativity, and cultural discovery in Baby Room. Thank you, families, for your continued support
We’re excited to introduce the latest edition of Mandarin music toy books by Fish Tale Rhyms—a fun and interactive way for children to learn language through songs, sound, and play. These bilingual books bring Mandarin to life at the push of a button, helping little learners enjoy music, rhythm, and vocabulary building. Parents can now sign up for free to try them out and see how much joy they bring to story and song time at home!
Hatching Dragons is proud to support our founder Cenn John, running the Cardiff Marathon this October to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Inspired by the loss of a sibling to congenital heart disease and Down’s syndrome, this fundraiser aims to help children facing life-threatening illnesses.
We would love for our Hatching Dragons community to join us in supporting this cause. Every donation, no matter how small, can help change a child's future.
