A new, clearer way of keeping in touch with you
Over the past few weeks, many of you have shared helpful feedback about how often and in what ways we communicate with you. Thank you – we’ve listened, and from the beginning of December we’re making a few changes so that information is clearer, more consistent and easier to find.
Here’s what our new communication rhythm will look like:
Daily Diaries
• No change
• You’ll continue to receive your child’s Daily Diary via eyParent as you do now.
Weekly Observations – from Friday 5th December
• Every Friday, you’ll receive a weekly roundup via eyParent with:
• Highlights from your child’s week (including photos/videos where appropriate)
• Key learning and activities
• A look ahead to the coming week
Monthly Nursery Newsletter – from 23rd December
• Our nursery newsletter will move from a weekly email to a monthly update via eyParent (using the new NewsFeed feature).
• This will start with the newsletter on 23rd December, and then continue monthly.
• In this newsletter you’ll find:
• A reflection on the month just gone and a preview of what’s coming up
• Important dates and reminders
• News from across the nursery
• Updates on events, projects and any changes you need to know about
• Any other news from across the Hatching Dragons family
• Today will be the final weekly newsletter.
• From the next edition on 28th November, newsletters will no longer be sent weekly by email. Instead, the next full newsletter will be shared on 23rd December via eyParent, marking the start of our new monthly rhythm.
Thank you again for your feedback and for working with us as we improve how we communicate with you. If you have any questions about these changes, please don hesitate to speak to your child’s key person, nursery manager or myself.

Welcome to Our New Finance Manager! We’re delighted to welcome Anna Zamuraeva as our new Finance Manager, joining us as part of a refresh of our Finance Department. Anna is here to raise the standard of our finance operations and make things clearer, smoother, and more parent-friendly for our families.
Her focus is on clear communication, faster support, greater transparency, and always having a listening ear when it comes to fees, funding, or accounts. Anna says: “I’m excited to join the Hatching Dragons family and am committed to ensuring our financial processes reflect values that are fundamental to our way of working: premium care, strong communication and high quality services.”
We’re excited to have Anna on board and look forward to the positive changes she’ll bring to support our parents, teams, and nurseries.
This week in the baby room, we enjoyed singing and playing along to our familiar Mandarin “Point Your Finger” song. As Mandarin is part of our everyday communication, the children are becoming increasingly confident in recognising and responding to key words. During the song, we used simple vocabulary such as 手 (shǒu – hand), 手指 (shǒu zhǐ – finger), and 头 (tóu – head), encouraging the children to point, copy actions, and join in with the rhythm. This playful activity supports their listening and attention skills while strengthening early language understanding in a fun, interactive way. It’s wonderful to see them engaging with the words naturally as part of their daily communication.
Curious about how we help our youngest learners thrive through play and care?
This week in STEAM, our little artists got their hands dirty with some colorful handprint painting! The children explored the magic of color mixing as they used their hands to blend different hues and create beautiful prints. It was a fun, sensory activity that not only sparked their creativity but also introduced them to the basic concept of color theory. Watching their hands transform into vibrant works of art was such a joy, and we’re thrilled to see how much fun they had experimenting with colors and textures!
This week in our baby room, we embarked on an exciting adventure to South America! Our little explorers learned about the famous glaciers of the region, using playdough with a touch of glitter and foil to represent the sparkling ice. It was a fun, hands-on way to bring the icy beauty of the glaciers to life! We also introduced them to some of the amazing animals native to South America. The children enjoyed squishing, molding, and creating their own little animals, sparking their creativity and curiosity about this vibrant part of the world. It’s always wonderful to see how such playful activities can open up new ideas and learning for our little ones!
Miss molly
This week Miss Molly brought lots of energy and joy to circle time. The children began by marching and dancing to lively rhythms, using their bodies to explore beat and tempo. They then enjoyed a game of “freeze and move,” where they listened carefully for the music to stop and showed off their best poses.
To add a sensory twist, Miss Molly introduced ribbons and scarves, encouraging the children to wave them high and low, fast and slow, creating colourful patterns in the air. The session finished with a gentle lullaby, helping everyone relax after such an active and playful time. These activities supported listening, coordination, and self‑expression, while giving the children plenty of chances to laugh, move, and connect with each other.
Sporty minis
This week, our Sporty Minis had a blast staying active with a fun-filled obstacle course! The children loved running, jumping, and walking over different challenges, all while building their coordination and strength. From hopping into hoops to balancing on beams, every obstacle was a chance for them to practice their physical skills in a playful way. It’s amazing to watch how their confidence grows with each jump and step, and we’re excited to continue encouraging their love for movement!
It’s been a wonderful week full of exploration, creativity, and celebration. Thank you to our parents for your continued support
Our Mandarin activity focused on winter clothing and weather. The children decorated scarves and clothes to learn about the cold season and how we keep warm. Through this creative activity, they also expanded their vocabulary by exploring weather-related words and different types of clothing.
Looking for a preschool that blends learning with global culture and creative play?
We set up a jungle mark-making discovery activity, using green leaf decorations and hanging vines, we created a mini jungle environment to inspire the children’s creativity. They used paintbrushes to draw a range of patterns in the sand, strengthening both imagination and early writing skills. This activity was extended with flashcards on the whiteboard, giving the children an opportunity to practice their fine motor skills.
To build on our jungle theme, the children also learned about birds of the rainforest. They created colourful hummingbirds using bright feathers and explored facts about the hummingbird’s diet and habitat.
To commemorate Remembrance Day, the children created a beautiful field of poppies. They used red petals and green stems to form their flowers, which also supported early counting and fine motor skills.
Educators explained, in a gentle and age-appropriate way, that poppies remind us to honour and remember the people who have helped protect our country.
The finished poppy field was displayed for the children to observe, appreciate, and reflect on together.
We introduced the book “Dear Earth” to support the children’s understanding of our planet and the importance of taking care of it.
Our animal rescue activity where the children worked together to rescue frozen jungle animals by smashing the ice with wooden tools. They then painted the ice and observed how it melted. We had lots of playdough fun this week too. With a selection of loose parts such as buttons, sequins, and lolly sticks, the children were encouraged to create freely and engage in imaginative role play.
Another exciting activity was potion making, where the children used coloured water and pipettes to mix colours and pretend to be magical wizards.
We explored counting in a fun and creative way through dot-painting caterpillars. Using colorful dot markers, the children added dots to each caterpillar segment while practicing one to one correspondence and number recognition. As they painted, we talked about counting slowly, matching each number to a dot, and noticing how the caterpillar grew longer with every number. We practiced exploring geometric shapes by drawing them with rulers and shape tracers. The children had the opportunity to trace circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles, then use rulers to draw straight lines and connect points. As they worked, we talked about the names of each shape, counted sides and corners, and noticed how shapes can be combined to make new pictures.
