A Week of Discovery and Fun at Our Canada Water Nursery

Exploring Southern Europe Through Play and Creativity

At our nursery near Canary Wharf, we’ve had an exciting week of themed learning, centered around Southern Europe. Designed for babies and toddlers aged 6 months to 5 years, our activities focus on building communication, cultural awareness, and creativity in an age-appropriate, play-based way.

Baby Dragons

Communication and Language – Mandarin & Multicultural Learning

As part of our early years communication and language development programme, the children took part in a Mandarin language session where they explored different occupations. Through songs, stories, and role play, they learned words like yīshēng (doctor), lǎoshī (teacher), and jǐngchá (police officer).

These interactive sessions help young children build confidence while being introduced to new languages and cultures—just one of the ways we offer an enriched curriculum at our Canada Water nursery.

STEAM Spotlight – Italian Art with Giuseppe Arcimboldo

In our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) focus, children discovered the creative world of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, an Italian painter famous for portraits made from fruits and vegetables!

Our budding artists created their own quirky masterpieces, using apples for cheeks and carrots for noses. This project encouraged creative thinking, artistic exploration, and fine motor development—key components of our early years art curriculum.

Regional Education – Discovering Italy

As part of our geography and cultural education programme, our little learners created their own versions of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Using paper, glue, and lots of imagination, they developed their fine motor skills while learning about one of Italy’s most iconic landmarks.

This fun and collaborative activity brought Italian culture to life in our Canada Water preschool classroom, encouraging teamwork and creativity.

Nursery Excursion – A Trip to the Science Museum

Our children had a wonderful adventure on an educational excursion to the London Science Museum, a short journey from our location in SE16. They explored giant rockets, sensory exhibits, and the playful Pattern Pod designed for early years learners.

Through hands-on discovery and exploration, the children expanded their understanding of the world around them. These excursions are just one way our nursery near Canary Wharf supports holistic child development.

Festival of the Week – World Health Day

To celebrate World Health Day, our babies and toddlers explored health and safety through imaginative play. Using their baby dolls and a new first aid kit, the children practiced role-playing as doctors and nurses, using bandages, ice packs, and syringes to care for their "patients."

This activity supported both emotional development and early life skills, while sparking conversations around kindness, helping others, and personal wellbeing—a cornerstone of our approach to childcare in the Canary Wharf area.

Specialist Sessions at Our Nursery Near Canary Wharf

Music & Movement with Molly's Mindful Movement

This week’s movement session with Miss Molly was full of Easter joy and sensory exploration. From singing "Five Little Chicks" to clapping along to "Pat-a-Cake," the children enjoyed music, rhythm, and twinkling lights beneath our rainbow parachute. These sensory-rich sessions foster emotional development and social interaction.

Easter Bunny Fun with Sporty Minis

Our Sporty Minis class turned into a festive bunny bonanza, complete with bunny ear headbands, hoop jumping, and active play. The children hopped, stretched, and danced, building coordination and balance in a joyful environment—an example of how we integrate physical education into our weekly schedule.

Joyful Music with Lucy Sparkles and Friends

Our babies and toddlers were all smiles during our Lucy Sparkles music session, where they clapped, stomped, and sang along to favourites like “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” With rainbow parachutes, musical shakers, and flowing scarves, the session offered a blend of early years music education, movement, and calm sensory exploration.

Preschool Adventures This Week!

Exploring the City of Venice with Preschoolers

At our nursery in Canada Water, we recently took our preschoolers on a magical journey to explore the beautiful city of Venice through arts, history, and imaginative play. As part of our early years curriculum, we introduced the children to the world of Venetian masks, a key element of the famous Venice Carnival. This activity allowed the children to discover the purpose behind the masks, their vibrant colours, and their cultural significance.

To bring this topic to life, the children created their own masquerade masks using feathers, gems, and bright paint—enhancing their creativity and fine motor skills. This hands-on activity is just one way we provide enriching experiences for children aged 6 months to 5 years.

Imaginative Play with Venice’s Canals

In line with our focus on imaginative learning, our preschoolers built mini versions of Venice’s iconic canals using construction blocks. They created gondolas and bridges, helping them understand geography and architecture in a fun, age-appropriate way. This immersive play reinforces our commitment to offering the best childcare in Canary Wharf and Canada Water through interactive, educational activities.

Outdoor Adventures: Educational Excursion to the London Science Museum

As part of our commitment to early childhood development, we organized an educational visit to the London Science Museum, located just a short journey from Canada Water. Our preschoolers explored exhibits on aviation, space, and transportation, sparking curiosity and promoting STEM learning from an early age.

Highlights included:

Learning about rockets and spacecraft in the Solar System exhibit.

Exploring vintage vehicles and early motorcars.

Visiting a Versailles-inspired section to learn how science and art intersected in the 18th century.

These trips are an integral part of our preschool programme near Canary Wharf, helping children gain real-world knowledge in an engaging way.

Celebrating World Health Day at Our Canada Water Nursery

In celebration of World Health Day, our nursery placed a special focus on oral hygiene and physical activity—key elements of our approach to childcare and wellbeing. Through role play, children pretended to be dentists and dental nurses, learning the importance of brushing their teeth and forming healthy habits early on.

We also held outdoor obstacle courses to boost physical fitness, helping children develop strength, coordination, and confidence in a fun environment. These sessions support our mission of nurturing healthy, active children at our nursery in London SE16.

Inspiring Careers on Occupations Day

Our Canada Water preschool celebrated Occupations Day by introducing children to diverse career paths, from palaeontologists and doctors to chefs and performers. Through interactive play and hands-on activities, children developed an early understanding of the many roles that shape our society.

This activity ties into our broader goal of offering a well-rounded early education that stimulates curiosity and builds a foundation for lifelong learning.

Specialist Teaching Sessions - Enhance Learning for preschool children

Our weekly specialist sessions offer unique experiences beyond the typical nursery setting. Some recent highlights include:

  • Music and Movement with Hannah Sparkles and Friends: Encouraging self-expression through music, rhythm, and song.

  • Sporty Minis with Coach Jack: An Easter-themed fitness session packed with dancing, hopping, and balance games.

  • Animal Movement Group with Molly's Mindful Movement: Promoting physical development and emotional regulation through interactive, turn-taking games.
