Role Overview: The Nursery Assistant (below Deputy Room leader level) supports the daily care and education of children within their designated room, ensuring a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment. They work under the guidance of the Room Leader and other senior staff, following planned activities and routines to promote children’s development. While they do not hold managerial responsibilities, they are responsible for key person duties, safeguarding, and ensuring the well-being of the children in their care.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Childcare and Room Support

  • Support the Room Leader and team in delivering high-quality childcare and early education.
  • Engage in planned activities that promote children's learning and development in line with the EYFS framework.
  • Provide attentive, nurturing care to ensure children's emotional and physical well-being.
  • Assist with feeding, changing, and maintaining hygiene routines.
  • Maintain a positive and stimulating environment within the room.

Key Person Responsibilities

  • Act as a key person for assigned children, ensuring their individual needs are met.
  • Build strong relationships with children, providing them with a sense of security and consistency.
  • Observe and record children’s progress, contributing to assessments and planning.
  • Communicate with parents about their child’s development and well-being.
  • Plan and implement age appropriate activities

Safeguarding and Compliance

  • Follow all nursery policies and procedures, particularly regarding safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Report any concerns in timely manner to nursery management
  • Ensure daily risk assessments are followed to maintain a safe environment.
  • Maintain accurate records, including but not limited to daily diaries and developmental observations. 

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Work cooperatively with colleagues, following guidance from senior staff.
  • Support room staff in setting up and tidying learning areas and resources.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive team environment.
Qualifications & Training: 

Essential: Relevant childcare qualification to level 3 or above; Up to date DBS; Pediatric first aid; Safeguarding training; Food Hygiene; SEND; Fire Safety; A positive approach to gaining further qualifications and training,

Skills:

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, ability to follow instructions, patience, and enthusiasm for working with children.

Experience

  • Previous experience in an early years setting of at least 1 year
