Here we're going to run through how to provide references to former employees that is compliant with our policy. We'll look at Bamboo, Google Docs and more...
So one of your team has handed in their notice and are committed to leaving the company at a set date within line of their notice periods set out in their contractual terms. You've gone on bamboo and made the notification of their intention to depart by updating their employment status with the termination effective date and you've added the bath boarding tasks to the Bamboo profile for HR to process.
Over the coming weeks he will start receiving emails from new nursery employers asking for references for that member of staff on the assumption that he or she is still looking for work in childcare. It is a legal obligation for all employers to take professional references for employees as it is our duty to do so for our staff team and so we will provide only a factual reference for the employee in line with our policy that covers off the start date, the job title, the full name, the number of incidents of disciplinary/safeguarding/lateness/sickness only.
All reference requests must be forwarded to the central team via humanresource@Hatching-dragons.com but in the event that the nursery manager has to undertake this function him/ herself the below video will apply.
Note that only HR or direct line managers can provide such references. See the video below for how to set up a reference template where to save it to share it with and how to get approval.
Once done please always ensure that you upload the signed and dated reference to their personal folder on Bamboo under the exit folder
