Language and Communication

Our babies explored the world of pumpkins and autumn leaves through both Mandarin and Makaton this week. With help from our Mandarin Practitioner, they learned the words for pumpkin (南瓜 nánguā) and leaf (叶子 yèzi), and sang a sweet song about big and small pumpkins — 大南瓜 dà nánguā and 小南瓜 xiǎo nánguā.

We also practised Makaton signs for “milk” and “sleep,” helping our little ones communicate their needs more clearly. During story time, That’s Not My Bat by Fiona Watt brought giggles and curiosity with its fun textures. In Bucket Time, the babies explored sensory toys that made sounds when squeezed, developing listening and fine motor skills.

Regional Adventure – North America Theme

The babies had a wonderful time exploring North America through creative, hands-on play. They discovered Arctic animals like polar bears and seals in icy water trays — a cool, sensory experience that encouraged curiosity and observation.

We then explored the vibrant colours of a North American autumn, playing with red, yellow, and brown leaves — crinkling, sorting, and listening to their sounds. During music time, we listened to the American folk song You Are My Sunshine, clapping and moving along with rattles.

To finish, the babies enjoyed our pumpkin patch play area, filled with soft pumpkins and orange balls for rolling, grasping, and exploring — a perfect blend of learning and fun!

Amazing Excursion

Our little explorers loved spending time outdoors this week. They went on a mini garden walk, watching the autumn leaves fall and collecting sticks and leaves for sensory play. These adventures helped them connect with nature and develop early curiosity about their surroundings.

We also took a trip to Causton Sand Park, where the children played “Hide the Teddy” — laughing as they searched and called “Teddy, peekaboo!” Some enjoyed climbing and swinging, while others dug in the sand, building strength, coordination, and problem-solving skills. On our way back, we stopped at a fruit shop, where the babies pointed to different fruits, named their favourites, and explored new words and colours.

STEAM Exploration

Our STEAM fun this week was all about colours and textures! During milk painting, the babies swirled drops of colour in milk, watching the hues move and blend. In our colour mixing experiment, they poured tinted water together to see new colours form — a delightful way to explore cause and effect.

These playful experiments nurtured curiosity, sensory awareness, and early scientific thinking — all while keeping learning joyful!

Specialist Teachers

We are so fortunate to have our specialist teachers bringing extra joy each week!

On Wednesdays, Mindful Molly led a calming session with gentle Halloween lights and sounds, helping the babies relax and focus. On Fridays, Ella Sparkles brought music and movement to life — the babies clapped, wiggled, and danced with sparkly pumpkin props, developing rhythm and body awareness.

These sessions fill our room with laughter, creativity, and warmth — a perfect end to a wonderful week!

Montessori & Literacy: Forming Letters with Magnets

Our literacy sessions focused on name recognition and letter formation. Using magnetic letters, the children practiced spelling their names while exploring the shapes and sounds of each letter. This sensory activity strengthened fine motor control and spatial awareness, helping them build early literacy skills in a tactile and meaningful way.

Outing Adventure: Exploring Autumn at Causton Park

The Blue Dragons enjoyed an outdoor adventure to Causton Park, where they built sandcastles, felt the texture of the sand, and collected natural treasures like leaves and pebbles. These hands-on experiences fostered teamwork, creativity, and a love for nature—connecting classroom learning with the changing autumn environment.

Phonics Focus: The Sound of “S”

During circle time, the children explored the /s/ sound through familiar words like socks and shoes. They traced the letter S with lollipop sticks and their fingers, following its curves and lines. This playful sensory approach helped them connect sound, sight, and movement—laying strong foundations for future reading and writing.

STEM Exploration: Colour Mixing Magic

Science came to life as the children experimented with pipettes and coloured water to mix primary colours. Their excitement grew as they discovered that red and blue make purple, and yellow and blue make green! This joyful experiment supported observation, prediction, and problem-solving skills while sparking awe and curiosity.

Language & Culture: Halloween in Mandarin

In celebration of the Halloween season, the children learned festive Mandarin vocabulary, such as 南瓜 (nánguā) for pumpkin and 蜘蛛 (zhīzhū) for spider. They repeated the new sounds with enthusiasm, showing great excitement in linking language learning with seasonal fun.

Black History Month: Exploring Hair and Culture

As part of Black History Month, we celebrated diversity by exploring different hair textures and styles. Using mannequin heads, the children practiced simple braiding techniques, developing patience, teamwork, and an appreciation for cultural expression. This hands-on activity reinforced our shared value of respect and inclusion.

Story of the Week: The Three Bears and the Witch and the Little Ghost

Our story time captured the children’s imagination as we read The Three Bears and the Witch and the Little Ghost. Through the story, the children reflected on themes of friendship, bravery, and curiosity. They shared their thoughts about the characters and discussed what it means to be kind and courageous — an engaging way to build empathy and confidence through storytelling.

Writing Club: Spider Trails and Pumpkin Paths

In Writing Club, our little authors traced formation lines to help the spiders find their way to the pumpkins! This fun, themed activity strengthened fine motor control and early writing skills while encouraging creativity and problem-solving. The children were proud to see their progress as they followed each line with focus and care.

Maths: Numbers in the Witch’s Cauldron

Maths was extra magical this week! The children practiced number formation from one to ten while tracing around a witch’s cauldron. This imaginative activity turned counting into a sensory experience, helping develop pencil control and number recognition through themed play.

Singing Class: Halloween Songs

Music time was full of laughter and rhythm as we sang Five Little Pumpkins, Old McDonald Had a Haunted House – E-I-E-I-Boo!, and Zoom Zoom with My Little Broom!. The children sang and counted with enthusiasm, using their voices and movements to bring each song to life — a wonderful way to blend numeracy and music.

Understanding the World: Coding & Native American Symbols

In our Coding Club, the children explored symbolic communication by using Native American symbols to create their own stories. They also made traditional Indian tents as part of our North America focus, learning about customs, community, and respect for diverse cultures. This hands-on experience helped develop their creativity and global understanding.

Science Club: Monster Food Experiment

Science Club was a spooky success as we mixed ingredients to create “monster food”! The children were fascinated by the bubbling reactions, observing how mixtures changed form and texture. This fun experiment introduced them to basic science concepts while nurturing curiosity and observation skills.

Learning to Tell the Time

To end the week, the children practiced reading classroom clocks and telling the time through guided play. This activity encouraged focus, logical thinking, and real-world numeracy — a great way to connect maths to everyday life.

Thank you for your continued support! Each week, your children grow in confidence, skills, and curiosity. We look forward to more exciting adventures ahead!
