Baby Room

Theme of the Week: Communication, Connection, and Cultural Discovery

This week in the Baby Room, our little ones explored the magic of language through stories, songs, and playful interaction. We introduced two new Makaton signs — “sleep” and “all done.” The babies watched closely and some even began to copy the signs, showing growing confidence in expressing themselves.

Modern Languages and Communication

This week we explored language through stories, songs, and play. We learned two new Makaton signs  “sleep” and “all done.” The babies watched carefully and some began to copy the signs.
During story time, we read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? The children joined in with animal sounds and actions growling like bears, fluttering like birds, and hopping like frogs. Everyone listened and laughed as we turned the pages together.
In circle time, we explored real and toy fruits from our fruit bag. We named them in English and Mandarin  banana (xiāng jiāo), orange (chéng zi), lemon (níng méng), strawberry (cǎo méi), and mango (máng guǒ)  smelling, touching, and pretending to eat them.

Regional Education

This week our babies enjoyed a Regional Adventure, discovering animals from North America through play, song, and music. During bucket time, we explored a collection of soft toys and printed pictures of an owl, moose, fox, and bear. The children reached into the bucket with curiosity, feeling the textures and smiling as we named each animal. We made joyful animal sounds and actions  hooting like owls, tiptoeing like foxes, and growling like bears.
At singing time, we introduced Mary Had a Little Lamb. The babies held and stroked the soft toy lambs, joining in with gentle claps and happy laughter as we sang together.
Our guitarist played calming North American instrumental music, filling the room with a warm, peaceful rhythm. Babies swayed, listened, and moved with the sounds.

Amazing Excursion

This week our babies enjoyed an amazing outdoor excursion to Vauxhall Farm Park. Although the farm was closed, we explored the open outdoor spaces, enjoying the fresh air, wide paths, and natural surroundings. The children crawled, walked, and toddled around with curiosity and excitement.
We also celebrated the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. The babies explored colourful lanterns, listened to gentle music, and learned a little about the moon and harvest traditions.
During outdoor play, we had lots of fun with games. We waved a parachute, threw soft balls, and played hide and seek, encouraging movement, coordination, and laughter.
We had a small picnic, where babies explored fruit and healthy snacks while practising social skills and sharing.

Sensory Play

This week our babies enjoyed exploring all their senses through sensory play. In a tuff tray, we put dried oranges, dried lemons, cinnamon sticks, and other natural items. The children explored the textures by touch, smelling the items, and noticing the different colours and shapes. They were curious and engaged, developing their fine motor skills while enjoying the natural scents.
In another activity, we set up cars in a sensory mirror tray. Babies pushed the cars across the shiny surface and laughed as they saw their reflections and the cars moving. This helped them explore cause and effect, hand–eye coordination, and observation skills.

Cookery Club

This week in Cookery Club, our babies helped make moon cakes to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. The children explored the soft, smooth dough with their hands, feeling the texture and noticing the different shapes. Some babies gently pressed and poked the mixture, developing their fine motor skills and sensory awareness.
We talked about the moon and harvest festival traditions while using simple, descriptive language. The babies smelled and touched the ingredients, exploring new textures and scents, which made the experience engaging and fun

Specialist Teachers

This Wednesday we had a lovely visit from Mindful Molly, our specialist teacher. She brought a fun Halloween theme to her sensory play session. The children enjoyed using lights and colourful scarves, waving them in the air and watching the lights shine and twinkle.
Molly helped everyone explore different textures and movements, and we practised being calm and mindful together. The children listened to gentle music and focused on their breathing while they played. It was a relaxing and happy time where everyone joined in and had fun.

It’s been a wonderful week of exploration, communication, and sensory play in the Baby Room. We’re so proud of how engaged and curious the children have been, and we can’t wait for more exciting learning ahead!

Phonics Fun

The Blue Dragons had a joyful time revisiting the letters S and T. They sang along to the Jolly Phonics songs — “ssss” for snake and “t-t-t” for tiger — with big smiles and enthusiasm. To bring the learning to life, the children made bright collages using pictures, paper, and stickers of items starting with those letters. This creative activity strengthened their letter recognition, fine motor skills, and imagination.

Cookery Club & Maths Adventure

In Cookery Club, our little chefs explored this month’s regional theme by making their own tortilla wraps! The children measured ingredients, compared sizes, and rolled their wraps while practising early maths skills like sequencing and counting. There was plenty of laughter as everyone took turns stirring and mixing before enjoying their homemade wraps together. This hands-on experience helped them build independence and connect maths to everyday life.

Amazing Excursion to Vauxhall City Farm

Our trip to Vauxhall City Farm was a wonderful adventure! The children were thrilled to meet friendly goats, chickens, and rabbits, asking thoughtful questions about how the animals are cared for. Together, we sang Old MacDonald Had a Farm and made animal sounds that filled the air with giggles. This trip encouraged curiosity about nature and helped the children connect classroom learning to the real world.

Exploring Autumn Scents

Autumn arrived in our classroom this week as the children explored seasonal scents like cinnamon, oranges, pinecones, and crunchy leaves. They described what they could smell and feel, developing language and observation skills through sensory play. The activity encouraged mindfulness and curiosity — and left our classroom smelling delightful!

Specialist Teacher

Mindful Molly brought some spooky excitement to the week with Halloween-themed sensory play! The children sang silly spooky songs, stirred bubbling potions, and waved magic wands while pretending to cast spells. These imaginative sessions helped the Blue Dragons express themselves, build emotional awareness, and develop confidence — all while having a magical time together.

Learning About Handwashing

We also learned the importance of keeping our hands clean through a fun and interactive hygiene session. Using pretend soap, rhymes, and lots of bubbly hand motions, the children practised washing away “germs” while following each step — wet, soap, scrub, rinse, and dry! This activity supported healthy habits and self-care in a playful way that the children truly enjoyed. The Blue Dragons had a fantastic week filled with exploration, creativity, and teamwork. We can’t wait to see what adventures next week will bring!

Modern Languages

In Mandarin, the children learned to write the character 月 (yuè), which means moon. To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, they listened to the story of Chang’e and learned about the tradition of sharing mooncakes. The children then collaborated on a beautiful drawing of the full moon surrounded by lanterns—fostering teamwork, creativity, and cultural appreciation.

Math

Our maths activities this week focused on building number confidence through sensory and hands-on play. The younger children traced numbers in flour using their fingers—an engaging way to strengthen coordination and recognise number shapes.
Older children extended their skills through counting and sequencing games, helping reinforce early numeracy concepts in a fun and interactive way.

STEM

In STEM, the children explored the fascinating science behind fireworks in water! Using food colouring and oil, they observed how colours move and mix in different liquids—creating dazzling effects that reminded them of real fireworks lighting up the night sky. The experiment encouraged them to make predictions and discuss what they saw happening in their jars.
To build on the excitement, they also launched their own mini “rockets,” learning about numbers, sequencing, and cause and effect while working together as a team.

Regional Education

As part of our regional exploration, we focused on North America this week. The children learned about the continent’s cultures, animals, and diverse landscapes through stories and pictures.
Our art project was inspired by Native American traditions, where children created feather decorations using bright colours and patterns. This activity encouraged creativity and respect for cultural heritage while enhancing fine motor and design skills

Thank you for your continued support! Each week, your children grow in confidence, skills, and curiosity. We look forward to more exciting adventures ahead!
